Breaking: Taylor family stays on ballot: Candi English names Jodi Taylor as running mate

By SUZANNE DOWNING

Aug. 31, 2026 – The disqualification of former Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor has produced an unexpected new ticket in Alaska’s race for governor.

Taylor’s lieutenant governor candidate, Candi English, moved into the fourth position for the Nov. 3 general election after Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom declined to certify Taylor’s nomination. English then selected Jodi Taylor — Treg Taylor’s wife — as her running mate.

English and Jodi Taylor went to the Alaska Division of Elections on Monday to complete the necessary paperwork and make the new ticket official.

The unusual reshuffling followed the Alaska Public Offices Commission’s determination that Treg Taylor had not substantially complied with the state’s financial-disclosure requirements within the statutory deadline. Dahlstrom announced Monday that she would follow APOC’s recommendation and not certify Taylor as a candidate for governor.

Taylor had finished fifth in the Aug. 18 top-four primary, but moved into fourth place after second-place finisher Tom Begich and his running mate withdrew from the general election. Once Taylor was disqualified, English inherited the ballot position as the lieutenant governor candidate attached to his primary ticket.

Rather than leave the lieutenant governor position vacant, English chose Jodi Taylor, keeping the Taylor family directly involved in the race despite Treg Taylor’s removal.

The newly constituted English-Taylor ticket now joins the other three tickets advancing to the ranked-choice general election:

  • Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins
  • Bernadette Wilson and Mike Shower
  • Dave Bronson and Josh Church
  • Candace English and Jodi Taylor

The four tickets are scheduled to appear on the Nov. 3 ballot. Under Alaska’s ranked-choice voting system, voters may rank as many or as few of them as they choose. If no candidate receives a majority of first-choice votes, the lowest-finishing candidate will be eliminated and that candidate’s ballots will be transferred according to voters’ subsequent rankings.

  1. It would appear this ticket was adapated to hold a place on the four-ticket ballot. Doubtful this duo will expend much time or treasure campaigning.

    1. He just hasn’t come out of the closet yet. LGBTQ pride will bring him out soon. Just hang on to your stick and quit being so impatient. JKT wants his partner to feel comfortable when the revealing happens.

  2. Who are Candace English and Jodi Taylor? I don’t even remember seeing them on the ballot. How would they be in the top four or governor?

    1. That’s the entire point, Elizabeth. The Republican Party doesn’t want you to know who the English/Taylor ticket is.
Now, Republicans can Rank the Red in this order:
      1. Bernadette.
      2. Bronson.
      3. English.
      4. (leave blank)
      .
      Brilliant strategy. Let’s Roll.

      1. Dogger…. its a “brilliant strategy if the conservative voters can figure it out. They seem to have trouble doing so.

  3. Brilliant move. Republicans are finally learning how to play the RCV game. Treg, English, and Treg’s wife are sophisticated players. Democrats and their homosexual heros should relocate to a gay friendly city run by LGBTQ. Republicans will work overtime to keep LGBTQ worship out of Alaska politics.

    1. “…….. Democrats and their homosexual heros should relocate to a gay friendly city run by LGBTQ………”
Anchorage is as gay friendly as they come.

  4. I am indebted to Ms. English and to Ms. Taylor for taking this action. Democrats are being very crooked here, and these two ladies are pushing back!

    1. Absolutely correct, Kayak. They kept the corrupt Click Bishop off of the ballot too. Two birds. One stone. Two sharp women. Republicans.

  5. Dems and Indies who are not far left communists are going to have difficulty with this RCV ballot. Do they vote for the communist homosexual, take a chance by ranking him less than 1, or do not vote at all in this race?

  6. We once upon a time actually elected our representatives in this country.

Lefties like chants, how about we convince them to start chanting Vote yes on 2 to repeal this mess…vote yes repeal this mess…vote yes repeal this mess.
