Sept. 22, 2026 – Alaskans who drive diesel trucks know the cost immediately at the pump — and it’s high everywhere in the state. For businesses that move freight, run heavy equipment or deliver fuel to communities, higher diesel prices can reach much further.
Sen. Dan Sullivan says the United States should temporarily stop exporting diesel to ease the pressure on American consumers.
Sullivan called Tuesday for an export moratorium that would last until the conflict involving Iran ends and energy shipments can move unimpeded through the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal is a call for federal action; no moratorium has been announced.
“American workers are producing more diesel than they have in years, yet Alaskans are paying higher prices at the pump,” Sullivan said in a statement. “The cost of diesel is just too damn high.”
He said keeping more domestically produced fuel in the United States could help rebuild supplies ahead of winter. Global disruptions have tightened diesel markets even as U.S. refineries have increased production. That does not establish how much an export pause would lower prices in Alaska, where transportation and distribution also affect the price consumers pay.
Sullivan pointed to two earlier steps aimed at Alaska’s energy costs: a July federal waiver that temporarily eased certain diesel requirements for qualifying sales north of the Arctic Circle, and $10 million in additional federal energy assistance announced in August. In his statement Tuesday, he also argued that producing more energy in Alaska would provide longer-term relief.

Wouldn’t it make sense to ramp up export taxes while proportionally lowering domestic taxes on refined products? No that would require intelligence. Congress is too busy trying to figure out how to get away with more sex crimes.

Iran started it’s war against the US when I was a young child. I still support our President and our military in their actions to reduce or eliminate the threat that the Iranian regime poses to the world. It is documented fact that they were attempting to develop a nuclear weapon and they have displayed the ability to reach Western Europe with their long range intercontinental ballistic missles. Only a fool, or someone hell bent on the destruction of western civilization, disregards such information by a people who chant “death to America”.
Baying for war is not something I’ve ever done, understanding the need for it while recognizing reality is definitely in my wheelhouse.
While younger inexperienced generations who have never faced any hardship whatsoever wish for world peace and that people sworn to destroy us don’t really mean it, I’m glad that there are still people who understand human nature.
