Julie Fate Sullivan has generally stayed out of the spotlight while her husband, Sen. Dan Sullivan, has campaigned across Alaska. But in a new video, she steps forward to challenge Mary Peltola over the Democrat’s attacks on the family’s finances.
The dispute centers on stocks associated with family estates following the deaths of Sullivan’s parents. Peltola has used the holdings to criticize the senator; Julie Fate Sullivan says Peltola has misrepresented their origin and calls her a liar in the ad.

The ad puts a personal voice behind a dispute that has largely played out as a one-way attack on Sullivan. The video follows the Sullivan campaign’s launch of PeltolaLies.com, a website that disputes at least 10 of Peltola’s claims, including her allegation about stock transactions after Sullivan’s parents died.
Julie Fate Sullivan, the daughter of Alaska Native leaders Hugh “Bud” Fate and Mary Jane Fate, has seldom taken such a public role in her husband’s political fights. Her decision to speak directly to voters adds a new dimension to the contest as Sullivan and Peltola head toward the Nov. 3 election.
