Poll: 59% of Democrats say they support Democratic Socialists of America

THE ALASKA STORY

Sept. 14, 2026 – A majority of Democrat voters now identify as supporters of the Democratic Socialists of America, according to a new national Quinnipiac University poll. It’s another indication of how far the party’s ideological center has moved to the left.

The survey found that 59% of Democrats consider themselves supporters of the DSA, while 30% said they do not. Another 12% did not answer or said they did not know.

Support for the socialist organization remains far lower among the wider electorate. Just 26% of all registered voters surveyed identified as DSA supporters, compared with 66% who said they were not supporters.

The partisan division was stark. Only 2% of Republicans identified as DSA supporters, while 96% rejected the label. Among independent voters, 22% described themselves as supporters and 70% said they were not.

Women were also more likely than men to embrace the organization: 32% of women identified as DSA supporters, compared with 20% of men. Fifty-nine percent of women and 73% of men rejected the designation.

The DSA describes itself as the nation’s largest socialist organization, with more than 100,000 members and chapters in all 50 states. It is an activist organization rather than a registered political party, but it recruits, trains and supports candidates, most of whom seek office through Democratic Party primaries.

The organization says it wants working people to exercise democratic control over the economy and society. Its constitution states that it rejects an economic system based on private profit and favors “popular control of resources and production” and economic planning. Communism, in other words.

Its national priorities include expanding organized labor, advancing a Green New Deal and building what it calls independent political power. The organization’s positions are described on its website.

The socialist label remains a liability with the electorate as a whole.

When asked whether a candidate’s identification as a democratic socialist would affect their vote, 43% said it would make them less likely to support that candidate. Seventeen percent said it would make them more likely, while 35% said it would make no difference.

Among Democrats, 39% said the identification would make them more likely to vote for the candidate, 11% said less likely and 43% said it would make no difference. Among independents, 14% said more likely, 34% said less likely and 48% said it would make no difference.

Republicans rejected the label most strongly: 88% said they would be less likely to support a candidate who identified as a democratic socialist.

The takeover of the Democratic Party is nearly complete. While nearly six in 10 Democrats now say they support the DSA.

Quinnipiac surveyed 970 self-identified registered voters across the contiguous United States from Sept. 3-6. Alaska was not included, but Alaska Democrats voted for Bernie Sanders, a socialist, for president in 2016.

Alaska Democrat voters picked Sanders 8,447 (79.6%) over Hillary Clinton 2,146 (20.2%) That is a 59.4-point margin (6,301 votes).

The survey, conducted through live interviews on landlines and cellphones, has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points, including the design effect. Full results are available from Quinnipiac University.

Yeah. They “socialists” (read marxists) are an existential threat to the American way of life. That’s why the neocons / zionists who destroyed our governing coalition for a foreign country are traitors of the worst kind. We needed that coalition- and the clear precepts that constituted that coalition- to keep the marxists out of power. That meant no war, mass deportations, re-industrialization, and a war against the oligarchy (deep state) who runs this country. We got none of that.

And now the R’s are going to get smoked by indifference in November, because there is a cost to lying and betraying people.

    1. “That’s why the neocons / zionists who destroyed our governing coalition for a foreign country are traitors of the worst kind.”
      Huh???
The DSA/Marxists are on the rise and somehow conservatives and Jewish people are the traitors, not the Marxists, who want to do away with our constitution, the senate, the supreme court, law enforcement and borders and instead implement an oligarchy of their own??

The DSA/Marxist have always existed, but after the Covid debacle of social media echo chambers, pushing depraved views in the name of equity and intolerance to other views, they reached critical mass to step from the sidelines into the “main stream”, aided by poor or non-existent civic education in our schools. Supported by academia and the press, they fuel envy and greed. Any system based on hate for your fellow member is doomed to fail, as it ignores the most basic fact of all, individuality and the need for freedom.
BTW I think your definition of “oligarchy” does not jive with the one AOC and Bernie peddle, as the deep state is certainly more than a few people, also regarding your demands you are getting 3 out of 4, so what’s your problem?

      1. > individuality and the need for freedom.

Can you tell me what difference there is between Biden offering to forgive student loans and Trump offering 5K a pop? Both are socialism and the furthest thing from freedom. Since the 5K a pop has to be printed because we are 2 trillion a year in deficits can you imagine what all that printing of more money would do to already aggressive inflation? Where is the freedom in war for another nation? Where is the individuality in a surveillance state with data centers galore and Flock cameras? I did not vote for war, aggressive inflation and surveillance.

        > getting 3 out of 4, so what’s your problem?

        Let’s count together.
        1. no war? nope (and traitorous to boot)
        2. mass deportations? nope (closing the border was a start not the finish)
        3. re-industrialization? nope (data centers employ few) (still H1B visas galore)
        4. attacking deep state? nope (cozied up to the deep state instead)

That would be 0 for 4.

        1. $5K is bait for the usual non-voting conservative faction. No different really than when Dunleavy gave us full PFDs in 2022. It worked. Dunleavy received over 50% of the vote that year. It’s hard to get working people to the polls. Money is the best enticement. And the money doesn’t cost any one person. It’s just green paper off the mint presses.

          1. The PFD is a dividend.

The Trump 5K is taxpayer funded and therefor debt and therefor inflation by the printing you mention.

            Huge difference.

        2. “Can you tell me what difference there is between Biden offering to forgive student loans and Trump offering 5K a pop?”

That’s easy! Forgiving a student loan means the taxpayers are on the hook for paying someone’s PRIVATE debt. A $5K refund (if that even materializes) is a return for overpayment to taxpayers, giving receiving taxpayers a means to spend as they see fit, supporting the economy through purchases in their local communities.

The surveillance/flock cameras is mostly a state/city issue and so you will need to complain to all those (mostly liberal) jurisdictions (like NYC). It also predates the current administration and has been going on for a very long time.

Mass deportation: current numbers I could find for deportation are more than 605,000 plus 1.9 million self-deporting individuals totaling 2.5 million+ people no longer in the country and his term is only half over. The more significant aspect is that through border security the influx of illegals has dropped to almost none. Not sure what you expected, but magic wands only exist in fairy tales.

Manufacturers are relocating operations back to the US (mostly due to tariffs, supply chain/transportation issues, rising labor costs in China). Some examples are Apple, IBM, Abbott Laboratories. Again these things take time and the billions these companies invest in the US support our economy.

So closing USAID doesn’t count in your book for dismantling the “deep state”? Defunding NPR is not a means to make the deep state justify to the American people, why they deserve a donation instead? Or how about the Medicaid fraud in Minnesota? The investigation into all of Joe Biden’s pardons and the abuse of power in crossfire hurricane?

Please your expectation are deliberately blown out of proportions, so you can diminish the gains achieved to hang on to your TDS!

      2. Charlie Kirk was rightly to be Gravely concerned by the Increasing Anti semitism/anti Jew on the Right by examples shown by Taxpayer.
Contrary to podcasters like Candace and Tucker, Charlie Kirk was not distancing himself from Isreal or Jews after all he did dedicate is Last book to a Zionist as he calls himself Dennis Prager because of their friendship. Nor should the Right sever its friendship with Isreal and Jewish people.

    2. The logical fallacy of divorcing yourself from a movement that you agree with more often than not to support a movement you claim to be against is nothing short of astounding. It’s frankly absurd to attack those who support our country, our constitution, our way of life as “traitors of the worst kind” while throwing in your lot with those who are actively trying to overthrow our country, our constitution, and our way of life. Of course you could always be honest with yourself and admit you side more with the likes of AOC, Zohran Mamdani, Abdul El-Sayed, and Hassan Piker than you do with the majority of right leaning folks.

  2. “………The organization says it wants working people to exercise democratic control over the economy and society………”
That’s a lie. They’re using the promises of the welfare state to destroy the society and culture, then after gaining control, they will enact forced labor to achieve further political gains.

  3. Considering how selfish, self centered, and idolatrous. How far this nation strayed away from God. After reading the Old Testament and New Testament multiple times I think this Marxism and socialism including Islam probably will play in a role in our country’s Divine judgment.

So before any of you continue criticizing Wilson, Bronson, and Taylor for what you call shortcomings. They are not America’s enemy. Either of them will make a better governor at helping to slow down the judgement coming across America.
How I’m sorry Republicans can’t just be united on one of the three. But you can’t even be united in Rank of order like Ranking them in the order they came.

  4. It’s very likely that a majority of the 59% of Democrats who say they support socialism don’t actually support socialism, they are simply conditioned to respond that they do because their ideology necessarily leads to following the herd and uniformity of thought.

Consider that a recent Harvard Caps/Harris poll found that 77% of registered voters under 25 believe their paycheck should be based on the “merit and value of their work.” Older voters hold that view in greater numbers. Under socialism merit has no place in pay.

68% percent of young voters say that one day they want to own their own home. Under socialism individuals do not own homes.

70% of young voters want to own their own business. Under socialism individuals do not own businesses.

63% see America as the land of opportunity. Under socialism there is no opportunity to improve oneself, as oneself is a part of the whole therefore there is no opportunity.

When socialist ideas are put to the test, the vast majority of Americans rightfully reject them. The problem is that some of these same people will vote as they are told without actually thinking about what they are voting for.

    1. Exactly. Republicans should learn the same unity that Democrats know. Then AkRepublicans wouldn’t be looking at Three gubnatorial candidates nor allowing themselves be manipulated into wrong thinking against their Republican candidates because of shortcomings while they are the only Republican candidate to vote for like DanS Sullivan and Nicholas Begich. But I think Most Republicans are pretty content to vote for Nicholas. Its Dan S Sullivan who is vulnerable because of far right Republicans, conservatives, and pro life radicals harshly criticizing him for not being more Republican as they see a Republican candidate should be. In a few short election cycles the same criticizing Hard right Republicans for what they call not being more Republican because Alaska is very close to becoming a “Swing” state in who becomes an Alaskan US Senator or US representative.
If Alaskans have a Democrat governor, US Nicholas Begich will likely find his next reelection race in 2029 harder. With the Governors office a c legislature one of their order of business would be to Term the US Senate and US House seats, so to make it easier to get three Democrats .

  5. At its peak in March 2025, 71% of Republicans called themselves MAGA supporters (according to an NBC news poll). DSA and MAGA are both crazy wings of their respective sides.

Seems maybe before Republicans go on attacking the Dems for their crazies that they may well want to combat the crazies in their own party. Glass house, stones, something like that.

    1. Nice try Bill!
Last I checked conservative supporters do NOT demand dismantling our republic (abolishing the senate and the supreme court, the police), destroy our economic system (communal ownership and take-over of industry, deregulating immigration) while gaslighting everyone into thinking, it will make the country more “democratic”!
Your deflection isn’t even in the same ball park and pathetic at best!

      1. nah, they’re pretty similar in their own idiocy. While not the same in goals, the same in ignorance. Thanks for proving my point!

        1. What point Bill?
That you can not discern between an organized effort to transform the country into a socialist hell and a motto to strengthen, honor and support the country as it was founded, is very troubling. It seems you are caught between your strong dislike for all things conservative (your target of choice to blame everything on) and the realization that the DSA means business and is far more dangerous to the country at large. So you declare them both “idiots” and move on? I am not sure who the ignorant one is in this scenario.

    2. “…….DSA and MAGA are both crazy wings of their respective sides……….”
Despite the ignorance of American socialists, the word “socialism” is well known, and can even be defined in the dictionary. The DSA has a website where their platform is easily reviewed, and it falls right in line with socialism as described by Marx in the Communist Manifesto. The DSA describes itself as “not a party” (just like Antifa), but as a “movement”, and is clearly organized.
MAGA (“Make America Great Again”) is a political theme created by Trump during his presidential campaigns and is founded on the belief that the United States was once a “great” country, but has lost this status owing to foreign influence, both within its borders (via immigration and multiculturalism) and without (via globalization, or the increased integration of multiple national economies), and this loss of status is supported by Democrats. There is no organized platform or organization whatsoever.
The “combat” you advise within the Republican Party has already occurred during the first Trump administration, and the RINO’s lost………miserably. Those who didn’t convert are pretty much out of the picture now or on their way out. The combat within the Democrat Party is just beginning, and I’m looking forward to seeing the political blood spilling, either from the “moderate” Democrats, or the communists/socialists.

      1. Great. And if the DSA idiots win, like the MAGA idiots in the Republican party, they will destroy the Democrats just as MAGA has destroyed the Republican party. And then where will we be? Two parties, beholden to their extremes. What a great society that will be…
