Peltola family puts Goldenview home on market as Mary’s Anchorage residency draws attention

Sept. 18, 2026 – The Anchorage home long associated with Democratic US Senate candidate Mary Peltola and her late husband, Eugene “Buzzy” Peltola Jr., has been placed on the market.

The luxury four-bedroom Goldenview house was listed Thursday for $800,000 by Renue Realty. The 3,575-square-foot home has three bathrooms, an attached three-car garage and sweeping views of Cook Inlet, according to the real-estate listing.

The property is being handled for the family by Buzzy Peltola’s son, Eugene Peltola III, according to information researched by The Alaska Story.

Municipality of Anchorage assessment records still identify Eugene R. Peltola Jr. as the property’s owner, nearly three years after his death in a September 2023 plane crash. The municipal record does not list Mary Peltola as a co-owner; municipal assessment records are used for taxation and may not reflect transfers made through probate, an estate, a trust or a recently recorded deed. Mary Peltola is in court over the Buzzy Peltola estate, an issue not yet resolved between her and his children from a previous marriage.

But the sale is politically noteworthy because Mary Peltola has built much of her public identity around Bethel and rural Alaska while spending substantial time at the Anchorage residence.

During her first campaign for Congress in 2022, the Anchorage Daily News reported that Peltola was returning most days to sleep in Anchorage, where her husband owned a home. Subsequent public reporting identified the Goldenview house as the Peltolas’ Anchorage residence.

Peltola has continued to emphasize her Bethel roots throughout her campaigns and regularly speaks of the Southwest Alaska community as home. Her more recent election materials, however, reflect Anchorage as her home.

In her 2026 official voter pamphlet biography, Peltola lists Bethel as a community where she lived through 2025 and Anchorage as her residence from 2025 to the present. Earlier candidate biographies had presented Bethel as her current home.

“Alaskan Communities Lived in: Kwethluk 1980-1982, Tuntutuliak 1982-1984, Platinum 1985-1987, Bethel 1973-1979, 1988-2025, Anchorage 2025-present,” her statement reads.

The Goldenview property was previously listed for $610,000 in 2019. The new listing places its asking price at $800,000 and describes the house as having a large kitchen with granite countertops and a butler’s pantry, a wall of windows, a primary suite with a fireplace and jetted tub, and views of Cook Inlet and Alaska sunsets.

Buzzy Peltola, a former Alaska regional director for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, died three years ago, when the small airplane he was piloting crashed shortly after takeoff near St. Mary’s. He and Mary Peltola had been married since 2011.

It is unclear where Mary Peltola will live if the Goldenview property is sold. She owns a luxury house on Saunders Road that she bought in July of 2025. She does not have it listed as her primary residence. She has maintained longstanding family and political ties to Bethel, but her official 2026 candidate biography now identifies Anchorage as her present community.

Peltola is challenging Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan in the Nov. 3 general election.
