NASA awards $158 million contract to Chugach Alaska subsidiary for Ames Research Center

By SUZANNE DOWNING

July 18, 2026 – An Anchorage-based Alaska Native corporation subsidiary has landed a major NASA contract worth up to $158 million to maintain one of the space agency’s premier research centers.

NASA announced Friday that it selected Chugach Intelligence Solutions LLC to provide comprehensive operations, maintenance and repair services at the Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley.

Chugach Intelligence Solutions is a subsidiary of Chugach Government Solutions, the federal contracting arm of Chugach Alaska Corporation. The regional Alaska Native corporation was established under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act and is owned by nearly 3,000 Alaska Native shareholders.

Although the work will take place in California, the award adds to the national federal-contracting portfolio of an Alaska-based corporation whose earnings support shareholder benefits, education, cultural programs, and investment in Alaska Native communities.

Chugach Government Solutions maintains its corporate headquarters on Centerpoint Drive in Anchorage and operates through a network of subsidiaries serving federal civilian, defense, intelligence and space customers across the United States and overseas.

Under the new Ames Facilities Support Services II contract, Chugach will be responsible for helping keep the research center’s historic and highly specialized buildings operational. The work will include routine facilities operations as well as maintenance, repairs and responses to emerging needs.

NASA Ames conducts research in aeronautics, exploration technology, artificial intelligence, astrobiology, Earth science and space science. The sprawling campus at Moffett Field also includes the NASA Research Park, where government, academic and private-sector tenants work alongside the agency.

The contract has a 12-month base period followed by four one-year options, giving it a potential five-year performance period. NASA may extend it for an additional six months. Work is expected to begin Aug. 13.

The $158 million figure is the contract’s maximum potential value, including all options and the ceiling for task orders; it is not necessarily the amount that will ultimately be spent.

The hybrid agreement includes core work performed under a cost-plus-award-fee structure, a firm-fixed-price transition period and indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity task orders that NASA can issue as facility needs arise.

The award fits squarely within Chugach Government Solutions’ established line of work. That company specializes in facilities operations, infrastructure maintenance, construction, logistics and other mission-support services for federal installations.

  1. Great, and I can continue to pay the property taxes of Chugach Alaska as they are a tax-exempt organization. I am stupid; they are blessed. Party on, my neighbors.
