Crew of FV Arctic Sea safe after grounding

The FV Arctic Sea ran aground after losing power at approximately 4 am on the north end of St. George Island in the Pribilof Islands.

The Coast Guard was able to assist in rescuing all nine aboard under very stormy conditions. Another vessel, the FV North Sea, also assisted. Winds were 50-knots and seas were 10 feet in the area at the time.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched from Cold Bay and a HC-130 Super Hercules came from Kodiak, where the Cutter Alex Haley also was dispatched.

The rescued crew were taken to St. Paul for medical evaluation.
