Authorities are investigating a house fire in Wasilla involving the residence of a cardiologist who was last week arrested on felony charges related to child sexual abuse material and later released on bail.
The home of Dr. Ryan McDonough, located on West Discovery Loop in Wasilla, burned in a fire reported after his release from custody. McDonough is currently considered missing.
McDonough had been arrested by Alaska State Troopers on Dec. 11, 2025, on 10 counts of possessing child sexual abuse material. He was arraigned on Dec. 12 and released on $50,000 bail. Court records indicate his wife posted the bail required for his release.
Following his release, McDonough was expected to appear in court for a preliminary hearing scheduled for Dec. 31 at the Palmer District Courthouse. His current whereabouts are unknown.
Fire officials have not publicly released the cause of the blaze, and it is not yet known whether the fire is being treated as suspicious. No injuries have been reported in connection with the fire, and authorities have not confirmed whether anyone was inside the home at the time it burned.
Law enforcement agencies have not said whether McDonough’s disappearance is considered voluntary or whether additional charges could be forthcoming if he fails to appear for scheduled court proceedings.
McDonough was briefly appointed to the Alaska State Medical Board in August by Gov. Mike Dunleavy but was removed from the board’s roster in November after he stopped attending meetings.

There’s bail for monsters like this? Why?
