Alex Gimarc: Gimarc: The Colorado Model comes for Alaska through JKT

By ALEX GIMARC

Oct. 14, 2026 – Jonathan Kreiss-Tompkins  is only the most recent example of an attempted leftist takeover of state government by Outside money, stealth moderates, and democrats (which may be a redundant list).  This was first successfully done in Colorado, the Colorado Model, installing a democrat cabal led by Gerald Polis.

This worked so well that they even wrote a book about it.

The Colorado Model has five elements:

  • – A small group of wealthy, private liberal donors.  JKT’s Anthropic donors are this.
  • – They built a permanent infrastructure of aligned 501(c)(3) and (c)(4) groups, data analytic, 527 committees, and liberal media/research.  Democrats and unions have largely installed these in Alaska.
  • – The network used coordinated voter data, poling and opposition research targeting opponents year round.  We have been seeing this for a few years here in Alaska.
  • – Focus on state and local races.  This is how democrats flipped the Anchorage Assembly and assembled their democrat / RINO majorities in the legislature.
  • – Finally, this all took advantage of demographic shifts in the state.  We are seeing such a shift as the oil / natural gas producers are chased out of the state.

This was used to flip politics in Colorado, a formerly reliable red state.

Once the newly elected democrats got their governor and legislative majority, they went on one of the wilder legislative sprees, with the newly elected Polis, who ran as a moderate signing whatever the legislature sent him.  Spanburger in Virginia did the same thing after being elected a year ago.  Klobuchar in Minnesota is poised to do the same thing should she be elected governor, as is JKT should he win here in Alaska in a couple weeks.

None of these democrat legislative priorities were ever debated, much less mentioned during the campaigns.  In short, the newly elected governors governed completely unlike what they promised to be.  Today, it appears that JKT is next on that list.

The problem with the Colorado Model is that once you politically flip a state, it is difficult to flip it back.  Once the veto-proof majority is installed, there is no end to legislative cramdowns.

We have a local example here in Anchorage, with the veto-proof majority democrats and unions installed around 2015.  Since then, we have had two mayors, Berkowitz and LaFrance who ran as moderates and governed as lefties.

Do we really want to make that same mistake statewide?

While he did not intend to play a defensive game, Gov. Mike Dunleavy was pretty good at reining in some of the wilder leftist attempts out of the legislature. Does anyone out there think a Gov. JKT will do the same?

Given the damage that the legislature managed to do to the gasline legislation this year, all under a Republican governor, what else can they do to resource development under JKT? Note that if your kneejerk choice for energy is renewables, there is no need to drill or mine anything anywhere.

Dunleavy has fought for the PFD and protecting the corpus of the Permanent Fund.

JKT and his legislative majority will do neither.

Dunleavy successfully fended off foolish attempts to pull the wooden stake out of the black little heart of defined benefit pensions.

JKT is actively supporting their passage, which will instantly require an income tax.

Dunleavy has supported a shared resource approach to fishing.

JKT will reprise his Southeast roots with a commfish first, and the rest of us can fight over the scraps approach.  So much for a shared resource. He already publicly went after the Kenai River Sportfishing Association as an organization that needs to be stopped.

Finally, he is a ‘give education whatever it wants’ kind of guy without any demand for improved performance in exchange for more funding, an approach that will only serve to pour more money into the rathole that public education is here in Alaska.  Dunleavy at least demanded some sort of improved performance for increased spending.  He also fought off attempts to shut down the ability of dissatisfied parents to pull their kiddos from a failed public education system.  JKT will do neither.

The most notable thing about this election cycle are Democrats pretending to be something or someone they aren’t. This stretches from Decoy Dan running for US Senate, to Peltola pretending to want to serve in office while missing 20% of all votes throughout her entire legislative career, to JKT pretending to be a thoughtful moderate.

If Democrats are so good at whatever it is that they do, why do they pretend to be something other than what they are?

The Colorado Model has been successfully used to flip states blue. Sometimes it is used across the board as in Colorado and Virginia. Sometimes it is used only in part, like here in Anchorage. Call it a practice run or a foundation.  It looks like Alaska is next on the target list.

At least know what we are dealing with. Don’t let the Colorado Model be successful here in Alaska.

  1. First the east coast then the left coast and now the entire north coast if we fall for the little queer riding in the Trojan Horse.
