May 4, 2026 – A series of incidents across the country, ranging from arson at a Republican headquarters to gunfire near the White House and violent-messaging graffiti on the National Mall, is adding to a list of violent actions by leftists across America.
In New Braunfels, Texas, a woman accused of setting fire to a local Republican Party office is now facing a terrorism charge. Grace Carol Brown was arrested Jan. 22 by the New Braunfels Police Department on suspicion of arson and burglary after a break-in and fire at the Comal County Republican Party headquarters on Jan. 14. While the fire was described as small, the incident prompted serious concern among local officials.
A Comal County grand jury elevated the case on April 15, adding a terrorism charge, according to regional reporting.
Meanwhile, in Washington, DC, gunfire erupted Monday near the White House complex, prompting a rapid law enforcement response and temporary lockdowns in the area.
The United States Secret Service confirmed that agents were involved in a shooting at 15th Street and Independence Avenue after a confrontation with an armed individual. Law enforcement shot the suspect, and a bystander was also struck during the incident. Both individuals survived, according to officials.
The confrontation unfolded shortly before a scheduled event involving President Donald Trump inside the White House.
Authorities have not publicly released additional details about the suspect or motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Also in the nation’s capital, federal authorities are investigating an act of vandalism at one of the country’s most recognizable landmarks.

The National Park Service confirmed that large graffiti reading “8647” was discovered spray-painted across a section of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool last week. The pool is currently undergoing renovation.
That slogan has drawn scrutiny because it can be interpreted it as a coded threat directed at Trump. The United States Park Police has opened an investigation into the incident.
Officials said the graffiti measured roughly 15 by 30 feet and was reported early Friday morning.
