Duly noted: Feb. 28 on Gregorian calendar is 9/11 on Islamic calendar

By THE ALASKA STORY

March 1, 2026 – It’s an unusual alignment: On the Gregorian calendar, Feb. 28 corresponded with the 11th day of the 9th month in the Islamic Hijri calendar; 11 Ramadan 1447 AH — a numerical curiosity that has sparked conversation surrounding the US and Israeli strikes on Iran’s former leader.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and in day/month formatting, the date is written as 11/9/1447. Because Ramadan is month nine, the pairing of the ninth month and 11th day has drawn attention for its resemblance to “9/11,” depending on how one interprets the numbers.

As with all Islamic dates, slight regional variation can occur depending on moon-sighting practices, but most standardized calendar calculations align on that date. But IslamicFinder and other widely used calendar converters verify that Feb. 28, 2026 is the same as 11 Ramadan 1447 AH.

The numerical overlap has fueled discussion on social media, with some referring to the date as an “Islamic 9/11” because of the ninth month and 11th day alignment. Some have suggested the date selection may have carried symbolic weight, though no official statements from the White House or Pentagon have indicated that the Hijri calendar played any role in operational timing.

Historically, US military operations are scheduled based on strategic, intelligence, and tactical considerations rather than religious calendar alignments. Still, in an age of heightened geopolitical tensions and rapid information spread online, numerical coincidences often take on symbolic interpretations beyond their calendrical origins.

As with many viral claims circulating during international crises, the distinction between verified fact and speculative interpretation remains important. The date alignment itself is accurate according to widely used calendar converters. Whether it carried deliberate meaning is, at this point, a matter of conjecture rather than documented evidence.

  1. I strongly doubt the planned event was coincidental but that Israel and US planned it just as Hamas and Palestine Arabs planned its attacks on holy days and weeks for Israel

  2. Israel wouldn’t be that sloppy or that coincidental not to had known this event fall on a day of significance
Everything surrounding and having to do with Israel is Always “religious”
After all it is the place that our World’s Lord Savior Jesus Christ was birthed out of this nation, the King of Heaven and Earth

  3. What happens to Israel when you people fall out of love with it because of a fairytale in a Bronze Age mythology book?

  4. It is honestly eerie how the lunar and solar calendars aligned right as Operation Epic Fury kicked off on February 28th. Whether you believe in the symbolism or not, the timing is definitely fueling a lot of the anxiety we are seeing in the comments. As things keep escalating in the Middle East, I’ve been looking into long-term options for my family in safer areas like Southern Spain, but I’m worried about the paperwork backlog if the situation gets worse. Does anyone here have experience with using remote legal services like https://e-residence.com/nl/nie-spain-online/marbella/ to handle a NIE application from abroad, or is it better to wait and try to deal with the local authorities in person despite the current delays?
