President Donald Trump has formally announced his intent to nominate Aaron Christian Peterson to serve as a judge on the US District Court for the District of Alaska, a move The Alaska Story reported was imminent recently, but is now official.
Sen. Dan Sullivan welcomed the announcement, emphasizing Peterson’s background in criminal prosecution, natural resources law, and national security, as well as his military service and long record of work on behalf of the State of Alaska. Sullivan also highlighted the work of the Alaska Federal Judiciary Council, a panel Sullivan convened in 2023 to evaluate and recommend potential nominees for federal judgeships. After reviewing applicants, the council recommended Peterson among the candidates Sullivan forwarded to the White House.
Peterson, of Eagle River, is a lifelong Alaskan and Air Force veteran. He currently serves as a senior assistant attorney general in the Alaska Department of Law’s Natural Resources Section, where he is the state’s primary litigation counsel on fisheries cases. Before that, he worked in the Office of Special Prosecutions from 2015 to 2019, focusing on statewide fish and wildlife crimes, and earlier served as an assistant district attorney in Anchorage handling a broad range of criminal cases.
He began his legal career clerking for Alaska Superior Court Judge Michael Spaan in 2010. Peterson is a graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage and earned his law degree from Gonzaga University School of Law.
If confirmed by the Senate, Peterson would fill one of Alaska’s federal district court vacancies and become one of the state’s youngest federal judges. One of those vacancies came open upon the forced resignation of Joshua Kindred, who has since been disbarred by the Alaska Supreme Court. He is banned from practicing law in the state after a scandal came to light involving his fellow court workers.

Another single man with no family. Hopefully he is stronger of man than his predecessor

I am thrilled that he isn’t some puke from Harvard, Yale or Georgetown.
Against higher education in general or do you have specific reasons to malign those universities?
