Peltola panders for oil votes, as Democrat Party she represents is dead-set against oil

By SUZANNE DOWNING

May 15, 2026 – Mary Peltola has continued to describe herself as supportive of oil and gas development in Alaska, but those positions increasingly stand in contrast to the official platform of the Alaska Democratic Party, which has moved sharply toward climate-focused restrictions on fossil fuel development.

Peltola, who often branded herself as an “Alaska-first” Democrat during her time in Congress, publicly supported development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, while also backing projects such as the Willow development on the North Slope. While in the US House, she supported the Alaska’s Right to Produce Act, but surreptitiously sent her Democrat colleagues a letter asking them to oppose it.

Pants-on-Fire Peltola flipped before she flopped in Congress

The Alaska Democratic Party’s platform takes a markedly different tone, more in line with the national Democrats when it comes to energy.

The party platform explicitly opposes oil and gas exploration and development in the coastal plain of ANWR, citing environmental concerns and impacts on the Porcupine caribou herd and Indigenous communities. It also calls for a transition away from fossil fuels, supports policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, and endorses a net-zero emissions target by 2050.

The Democrats’ platform states: “We support protection of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge coastal plain and oppose oil and gas exploration, leasing, and development as it jeopardizes the human rights of the Gwich’in Nation who depend on the health of the Porcupine caribou herd and its habitats for their subsistence and cultural survival. In addition, the coastal plain is a critical, intact ecosystem supporting polar bears, hundreds of species of birds, and other wildlife.”

The position mirrors a broader trend inside the Democratic Party nationally, where environmental activists and climate-focused Democrats have increasingly pushed for restrictions on new oil and gas projects. National Democrats under the Biden Administration pursued multiple leasing restrictions and regulatory changes affecting Alaska energy development.

There is a notable divide between Peltola’s campaign rhetoric and the policy goals of her party. While Peltola may personally support some projects, the broader Democratic agenda remains fundamentally hostile to long-term oil and gas development in Alaska

Peltola is now running for Senate against Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan, and is once again positioning herself as pro-oil, playing to the Alaska voter who understands that oil revenue fuel the state’s budget and add value to the Alaska Permanent Fund.

In her current Senate campaign, Peltola’s “Affordability” agenda prominently features expanding Alaska energy production:

“Producing Alaska Energy, For Alaskans… Mary knows that refining more of our oil here in Alaska will lower fuel costs, create good-paying jobs… she will push for targeted tax credits that encourage investment in Alaska refineries.”
“Mary will stand up to anyone to pass permitting reform that streamlines pathways for Alaska energy projects…”

  1. Oh yes. Just what we need, another “stunning and brave powerful woman”. (sarcasm)
Pattern recognition suggests nothing but a headache.

  2. It’s the Democrats who are bitching the loudest about the rising cost of gasoline. They want Trump to quit blockading the Straits of Hormuz so oil tankers can deliver Iranian oil around the world and grow the Iranian economy. The Democrats would prefer that the Iranians prevail and continue their nuclear weapons development.
This shows you the mindset and contempt for America by Democrats. There is a stubborn mental disconnect in their thinking. They hate hydrocarbon fuel. They hate oil companies. They hate American made vehicles. They hate the US military. And they hate Donald Trump. Yet, they all use gasoline and oil product derivatives, and they live safely in this country while Donald Trump protects them. The problem is, we don’t have enough qualified, licensed psychiatrists to treat all of these psychotic Democrats and their numerous me mental problems.

    1. I think Peltola crowd of democrats are alcoholics and taking drugs already. that’s why they act the way they do.
The voters believe their campaign lies that they are truly the good guys while their propaganda media sites lie about their Republican and Conservative candidates and leadership. Democrat voters Just like a gossip without a head of their own they believe everything told to them.

  3. Gas and grocery prices will steer the voters more than spending on ads. Nothing hits home harder. Biden could not overcome inflation amongst other things. The tariffs and Iran war could have been impeded by Congress but we discovered most elected officials are invertebrates.

  4. TRUMP “I don’t think about American’s financial situation. I don’t think about any one. “

    SULLIVAN …

Sullivan, to the surprise of no one, can’t muster the balls to call out Trump’s horribleness. Sullivan has countered Trump exactly zero times. You like the extraordinary corruption in the Trump administration? Vote Dan Sullivan!

    SULLIVAN=TRUMP. TRUMP=POISON. NOVEMBER= PELTOLA
