Peltola ally Slotkin wants prosecutions used to intimidate prospective Trump staffers

Oct. 20, 2026 – Michigan Democratic Sen. Elissa Slotkin, an early supporter of Mary Peltola’s US Senate campaign, is drawing criticism after saying she wants cases against Trump administration officials to discourage young people from taking jobs in the administration. She is trying to scare young people away from jobs in the administration by threatening them with prosecution.

Speaking at the University of Chicago on Oct. 13, Slotkin advocated pursuing “signature cases” involving alleged corruption, focusing on people who enabled President Donald Trump as well as the president himself. She explicitly described the effect she wanted those cases to have on prospective recruits.

“I want young people coming out of school to say, ‘Should I go work for the Trump administration? Like, that sounds fun, I might get an opportunity.’ I want them to be like, ‘Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that.’ I want that deterrence message sent,” Slotkin said.

Slotkin argued that people carrying out Trump’s directives do not have the presidential immunity protections available to him. Her broader remarks framed the proposed cases around what she characterized as egregious corruption.

The comments have an Alaska connection: Slotkin publicly backed Peltola when the former Alaska congresswoman announced her Senate candidacy in January.

In her Jan. 12 endorsement, Slotkin praised Peltola’s work during their overlapping service in the House, describing her as committed to Alaska and highlighting her grace and humor. She also urged supporters to contribute to Peltola’s campaign.

“I’m ready to do everything I can to help her flip this seat,” Slotkin wrote, sharing a fundraising link to ActBlue.

Republicans sharply criticized Slotkin’s remarks, arguing that her stated goal crossed from accountability for wrongdoing into intimidation of people considering public service.

“It is absolutely disgraceful to threaten young Americans for participating in politics and serving their country,” Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee wrote.

Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor also criticized the comments, saying they endorsed political prosecutions as a means of discouraging Americans from government service.

In fact, it’s a form of fascism.

The Chicago remarks followed a Sept. 30 speech at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where Slotkin discussed lessons from Hungary and Poland and outlined accountability efforts Democrats could pursue if they regain Congress.

“In Poland, they called this plan the Iron Broom, cleaning the place up,” she said, describing a proposed list of cases involving alleged abuses of taxpayer dollars.

  1. Hmm Hungary and Poland… definite stalwarts of democracy (sarc)! Iron Felix (who was born in Poland) was always very fond of his purges….
I am so tired of Slotkin and her ilk yelling about how fascist the other side is, while planning to persecute all, who do not tow their party line. This is the US where opposing opinions used to be welcomed and considered and we agreed that we are all first and foremost Americans.
Ironically an Indiana democrat candidate for county council, Jamie West, did not even bother with the mantle of legalities/indictments. She plainly stated that her first act, if elected, would be to fire ALL republicans and then ended her statement with a cryptic “we have guns too”!

  2. Of course. And working for the Biden and Obama Administrations were signs of devoted honor and integrity? These lousy Marxist Democrats know how to feed the media’s bullshit meter. Trump should have locked-up Hillary Clinton, when he had the opportunity in 2017. Why hasn’t Comey, Brennan, Garland, et all…been arrested? Placating the mentally ill and the enemies of freedom hardly ever works out in the end. Round all of them up and prosecute them, just like they would do to us. (think J6 prosecutions of the protestors who had every right to be in DC protesting an illegal election).

  3. A despicable person. If she doesn’t get her way her solution is to facilitate anarchy. She views Paris over the weekend as aspirational.
