Aug. 20, 2026 – An undercover video released by James O’Keefe has exposed Alaska’s weak election safeguards, after Anchorage poll workers appeared willing to provide ballots in the names of two people closely connected to Sen. Lisa Murkowski, without requiring identification.
The video, recorded during Alaska’s Aug. 18 primary election and published Thursday by O’Keefe Media Group, shows O’Keefe visiting polling locations, while wearing a medical mask, and giving election workers the names of Murkowski’s brother Brian Murkowski, and the senator’s Alaska state director, Karina Waller.
In both encounters, the workers located the named voter in the registration system and appeared prepared to let O’Keefe proceed with voting.
At one location, O’Keefe asked whether it would be possible to vote without identification.
“Absolutely possible,” a poll worker responded. “You can vote if you’d like to.” O’Keefe is a resident of Florida.
The workers assured O’Keefe that he could receive a ballot even though he did not present identification. At another point in the footage, an election worker was heard saying, “We’re trying to figure this out,” referring to the voting system.
O’Keefe did not cast a ballot in either person’s name. The video documents how far he was allegedly allowed to move through the check-in process before stopping the encounter and revealing what he was doing.
The video expose a vulnerability that could allow someone to obtain another registered voter’s ballot merely by supplying a name and confirming information verbally.

Alaska law generally requires a voter to present identification before receiving a regular ballot. Acceptable documents include a voter registration card, driver’s license, state identification card, passport, birth certificate, hunting or fishing license, or certain government and financial documents bearing the voter’s name and current address.
An election official may waive the requirement if the worker personally knows the voter. Someone who cannot provide the required identification is ordinarily permitted to vote a questioned ballot, which is reviewed before it can be counted.
Nothing in O’Keefe’s footage indicated the poll workers personally knew him as either Michael Murkowski or Karina Waller.
The video immediately put Murkowski’s national position on voter documentation under renewed scrutiny. Murkowski has opposed the federal SAVE America Act, legislation intended to require documentary proof of US citizenship for voter registration and identification before voting in federal elections.
Murkowski has argued that stricter documentary requirements could disenfranchise eligible voters, particularly Alaska Natives and residents of remote communities who may face difficulty obtaining or producing the required records.
“While disenfranchisement may not be the intent of the SAVE America Act, there are thousands of Alaskans who stand to be disenfranchised should it become law,” Murkowski said earlier this year while explaining her opposition.
The senator responded to O’Keefe’s Election Day operation through her spokesman by calling for prosecution of anyone impersonating another at the polls, turning the focus from the conduct of election workers to the journalist who tested the system.

But the footage presents Alaska election officials with questions that cannot be answered simply by investigating O’Keefe.
Why did workers apparently offer regular ballots to an unknown person who provided no identification? Were the workers following Division of Elections training? Would the electronic pollbook have provided any additional protection if O’Keefe had signed another voter’s name? And how many ballots may be distributed under similar circumstances when no camera is recording?
The Alaska Division of Elections recruits and trains hundreds of temporary workers to staff polling locations across the state. Those workers are responsible for confirming voter eligibility, operating election equipment and processing both regular and questioned ballots.
O’Keefe’s video suggests at least some workers may not have understood — or may not have followed — the state’s identification requirements on Election Day.
The incident is especially striking because both names used in the operation belong to people with direct ties to Murkowski. Michael Murkowski is the senator’s brother, while Waller serves as one of her highest-ranking Alaska staff members.
The apparent ease with which an unfamiliar man was offered their ballots will likely add fuel to the long-running debate over voter identification and public confidence in Alaska’s election system.
Murkowski has argued that documentation requirements create barriers to voting. O’Keefe’s investigation raises the opposite concern: whether Alaska’s safeguards are strong enough to ensure that every ballot is given to the person legally entitled to cast it.

The Alaska Division of Elections had not publicly announced any investigation or corrective action in response to the footage at the time of publication.

Suzanne,
You deserve to get the exclusive O’Keefe interview! That would be epic.
You would think either the governor or vice governor could do something but they do nothing I just don’t get it because others governors do
Vice governor???? Mike you are not from around here, are you?? Nancy Dahlstrom is the LT. Governor!
Anyway this in my opinion is a individual precinct problem (and should be addressed by the LT. Governor to make them follow the rules). I vote in every election either early or on election day and have ALWAYS been required to show ID at my precinct or the early voting center. It is distressing that there are poll workers, who think bending the rules is okay. Shame on them!
We need to pass the SAVE act and that is congress’ business!
In SC Election Fraud has been punishable by felony laws since May 13, 2022. Is Alaska Election Fraud a felony or a misdemeanor?
I suspected voter fraud got and kept the Mookowski. This is huge! I assumed it was the law to have an ID to vote, it may be but, a law is worthless if it’s not enforced to its fullest extent. How many fraudulent votes were cast, not only for the Moo but, other office holders, propositions ect.. Bad enough we have Rank Choice Vote Fraud, in the state, and Mail In Vote Fraud in Anchorage. The Rank Choice vote fraud removal was narrowly defeated in the last election cycle, how of those votes cast were fraudulent. I sincerely hope the division of elections gets these trained up and ready for the November election, this a big election for Alaska and if the Dems take to governorship and the US senate seat we are screwed six ways to Sunday.
Alaskan people are too gullible, too naive, too trusting, and too illiterate Not to EVEN ask for the brother of a current US Senator and state director .
The goof is on the Alaskan poll volunteers.
You are to Card everyone! Even if the voter is Lisa Murkowski, Dan Sullivan )the real one), Governor Dunleavy, or Nicholas Begich.
Card everyone them you don’t look like an illiterate Alaskan to someone as national as O Keefe with millions of followers.
Div of Election should give them a warning and see the volunteers paid attention during their trainings.
Give those two Alaskan volunteers some grace. Likely not done out of malicious or corruption just they never thought OKeefe would be visiting our polls this fall what were the odds (1/100). But if they screw up second time. They’ll done! No more volunteering in elections.
Tina: Those “volunteers” are not volunteers. Poll workers for elections managed by the State are paid temporary State employees. They are paid $20/hr for their time, including “Training Sessions” that clearly weren’t adequate. https://www.elections.alaska.gov/election-workers/
Just like Alaska’s employments. Our governments and businesses hire inexperienced, or lazy, or stupid managers and supervisors who can’t train because they themselves don’t know how to work, nor communicate well, nor posses professional skills. They either just hire anyone (or accept any volunteer.) Tell them a few points and throw them on the floor before they really understand then leave them to wing it.
I just finished watching the video on YouTube because I can’t watch twitter or Facebook. I feel really sorry for those Alaskans in the video. My intuition I can tell they all mean well. Maybe one or two of them are paid poll workers from the Div of Elections but they are acting like volunteers just from my experience being a volunteer in other organization. The poll workers if there is one and their volunteers are acting out they are poorly trained by the Division of Election who probably is likely just as embarrassed as SenMurkowski among her more Red Republican colleagues in the US Senators to see she represents a very gullible and silly state of Alaska.
I really wish those poll workers or volunteers for a change didn’t give him a question ballot without an ID. Follow their gut feeling Because they really made the entire State of Alaska look as stupid as we are for living here and being managed by stupid Alaskan leaders whom by the few are elected by Alaskans.
But Alaskans brought the embarrassment upon ourselves for whom we elected to represent our districts.
But. I’m thankful O Keefe successfully was able to call Alaska out for the stupidity and corruption in Alaska’s elections.
The reason I feel sorry for those Alaskans in the video was because they look like they are just following their poor training and following orders from someone hire-up. But they look like dumb sheep and they just got in trouble for getting themselves into a situation they have no idea how they got into because of following a bad Shepard.
I’m glad I been slower to start volunteering at my district precinct or be a poll watcher. After O Keefe, now I know I will have ti go beyond the poor training div of elections give to the volunteers or paid worker to study a little more to protect myself.
AGAIN. This is the reason I want to see former Sen Shower as Alaska’s 2027-2035 Lt Governor. The most qualified Lt Governor candidate of the four to head and oversee the Div of Elections.
Even if you don’t like Ms Bernedette Wilson. Elect her just so Shower can be the Lt Governor. Please.
Tina, I am so glad to see you say that about Shower. I haven’t paid that much attention to anything about him for specifics. But I have thought for a long time that Bernadette is full of energy and will not back down from controversy. For me, it’s between Wilson and Bronson. I really don’t care what the mainstream media says about him for what he did or didn’t do when he was the mayor of Anchorage. He was fighting against the most liberal assembly ever assembled in history and they were hellbent on destroying him.
This story is missing some facts! Registered voters are supposed to vote at THEIR polling place. They show ID and SIGN where their name is on the register for that precinct. Then they are handed a ballot.
If anyone tries to vote where their name is NOT on the register they have to vote a question ballot.
If Okeefe had voted a regular ballot, but did not sign the register, the count of ballots would not have matched the count of signatures.
Additionally, each poling place has a chair. I’ve worked at 2 different poling places in Fairbanks in the last 8 or so years and 3 different Chairs. Each took the job seriously.
AND Wait For It……..Dominion machines front and center at my polling place here in Alaska. Probably doesn’t matter if Mickey Mouse shows up to vote cuz the fix is in between Rank Choice(their choice, not ours) Voting and Dominion software:)
Dominion sold to Liberty Vote last year, a reportedly conservative outfit.
The whole point of a questioned ballot is that voter attests to his identity, votes a ballot that goes into separate bin, and is not counted until the identity is confirmed thru other means. His signature is on the form signed to secure the ballot. There is nothing nefarious in the process; O’Keefe didn’t explain the whole story.
You are correct, Damian.
1. Send James O’Keefe’s organization a donation for his trip to AK to expose Princess Lisa and show firsthand why America needs the SAVE America Act passed.
2. How are “questioned” ballots handled and by who?
3. Murkowski’s brother lives in Texas. So WHY is he still on the AK voter rolls? Has he been voting in AK elections or has someone else been voting his ballot for him?
4. Watch for Part 2 of O’Keefe’s video when he visits the native villages Princess Lisa claims will be negatively affected by the SAVE America Act if it passes.
My ex-wife, bless her druggie little life-style, still lives in Alaska and carries the torch for our family’s last name legacy. So, by former association I still vote in Alaska. Our family married into other Alaska royalty. eg…Sturgelewski, Cole, etc.
Lisa married her House Husband who never had a real job or any legacy status. That’s why he takes our name and scrounged off of our family. Dad still gives him an allowance. Mom can’t stand him. But for RCV and Alaska Democrats, we would have moved far away, long ago. Alaska Republicans have turned into creeps.
Mr. O’Keefe,
please apologize for using House Husband’s photo in your video. That photo is not of Brian. Brian is much more handsome than House Husband. Otherwise, I really enjoyed your video.
Nancy and I don’t have much to do these days. Basically, we’re just waiting around for the end, maybe to see if Big Mike can retire Lisa in 2028.
Then we can finally rest.
Yes, thank you, Mr. O’Keefe. Your videos are outstanding. Reminds me of the old days when Frankie and I used to watch Candid Camera. I hope your next video is one where you impersonate Lisa trying to get into a Drag Show. No ID’s necessary, even for little children. Your videos could go global.
Can’t wait.
I just pray that Mr. O’Keefe stays the hell away from Alaska when Lisa gets challenged by Mike Dunleavy in 2028. Without RCV, it’ll be all over for me by August. Lisa will get primaried and that will be the end of me. No more free lunches in DC and extended vacations to our Mexican Villa. Hell, she may even divorce me and run off with some old codger retired and worn-out NHL player like her pal Sarah Palin. Who in their right mind wants to retire in Alaska? It’s been a great free ride, though. Beats working for a living. And yes, Mr. O’Keefe makes funny videos. Great entertainment.
Vern, you’ve become a star without even trying. A charmed life, buddy. Not for everyone, though. You still have to answer to the Princess and that would be a deal breaker for most real men I know.
Don’t blame the poll workers. Blame the law. They were following their training and Alaska’s law which allows virtually anyone to vote. However if they are not on the precinct register or do not have ID they will have to vote a questioned ballot and it will be examined by the Questioned Ballot Review Board after Election Day for determining admissibility.
So, like any other organized crime boss, Godmother Lisa wants the rat who squealed silenced. Maybe congress will pass a law that dictates We the People can’t criticize the system and must remain in a state of fealty at all times. Just pay us and shut up…..or else.
Lt Governor Nancy Dalstrom is ultimately in charge of all state elections per the law. She has screwed up on all of them since assuming office. It is a blessing that she did not gain the governorship in this last election. The best choice now for governor is Bernadette Wiison because her running mate is a smart person who will do the best job under election law. The criminal voting practices will stop under his leadership.
Yep I voted, or as they say somewhere here in Alaska, Cucuklillruunga!
Yes the ladies did ask for my ID before letting me sign for my ballot.
