How the Democrats weaponized Memorial Day

By THE ALASKA STORY

May 26, 2026 – The Democratic National Committee was at the center of controversy on Memorial Day after its official social media account posted and then quickly deleted a graphic that politicized the nation’s fallen service members.

The post, shared Monday morning on Memorial Day 2026 through the DNC’s @TheDemocrats social media accounts, featured photos and names of 13 American service members killed during the recent US-Iran conflict. Above the images was the message: “Today, we honor the American heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in Trump’s war with Iran.”

A second heading on the graphic read: “Remembering the Americans who have died in Trump’s war with Iran.”

The timing drew immediate criticism from both political sides. The post appeared around 11 am Eastern while President Donald Trump was participating in Memorial Day observances at Arlington National Cemetery honoring fallen American troops.

Hours later, the DNC deleted the graphic from X, Instagram, Facebook, and Threads after a wave of backlash that included criticism from Democratic lawmakers and military veterans.

Among the most prominent Democratic critics was Sen. Tammy Duckworth, who lost both legs serving in Iraq. Duckworth condemned the message, saying it was “incredibly distasteful to use our heroic dead for a political attack on Memorial Day.”

Rep. Jason Crow also rebuked the post, saying Memorial Day should not be politicized.

Following the backlash, replaced the deleted message with a more traditional Memorial Day tribute honoring fallen service members without partisan language.

  1. The DNC left out the all important much higher number of soldiers killed and injured as well as innocent civilians across many nations over the past half century.
Narrow minds with zero memory of the past 50 years of carnage all fueled by hate.
Are they giving Trump the credit/blame for all those years of death and destruction?
Maybe those “targets” obliterated on the first day of retaliation are all thanking Trump for sending them to their promised 50 virgins for dying for Allah.

  2. Republicans are absolutely beside themselves that Democrats “politicized” military deaths. This from the party that turned Benghazi into a decade-long fundraising machine, that stayed silent when Trump called POWs losers and told a grieving Gold Star mother her son “knew what he signed up for,” and that still treats anyone skeptical of sending troops overseas on some fool’s errand as an America-hating traitor. It’s nice to see the Republicans continuing their campaign of eye-watering outrage hypocrisy.

The DNC post was stupid and tone-deaf, they deleted it within hours, and their own combat veterans, such as Tammy Duckworth, publicly called it out. That’s what accountability actually looks like. This stands in stark contrast to the deafening silence when Trump says or posts something stupid, because Republicans are terrified of getting on his bad side.

Republicans love honoring the troops as long as it’s on their terms. Need a reminder? Three years after Abbey Gate, Republican lawmakers literally stood in front of the grieving families of those same 13 dead service members at a press conference, using their grief as a campaign backdrop against Kamala Harris. But sure, the DNC’s stupid infographic is irrefutable proof they hate the troops. Just when I think the Republicans can’t get more petty.

    1. Next time you try to run cover for your communist comrades in the Democrat Party, instead of twisting yourself like a pretzel with a long winded and factually false “but what about them?” screed, just yell out: ” Look. Squirrel!”, and save yourself some time.

      1. Not gonna challenge a single fact in my post then. Nobody ever accused MAGAs of leading with their brain, just loud voices and ad hominem attacks.

        A+ buddy!

  3. Trump’s War has caused my electric bill to rise over $46 per month. This is outrageous. I’ll have to go back to my standard typewriter. And if electricity rates keep going up more I’ll have to quit using the blender to mix my cocktails. And I simply can’t live without that.
