Aug. 7, 2026 – The campaign to repeal ranked-choice voting in Alaska has received a massive financial boost from a political network that is backed by hundreds of Alaskans — and now Elon Musk.
Aurora Action Network has received $1.5 million from Musk, the latest financial disclosure report shows.
The PAC has contributed $1 million to Repeal Now, the Alaska group campaigning for a “Yes” vote on Ballot Measure 2 in November, to repeal ranked-choice voting.
The contribution gives repeal supporters the financial muscle to compete against the national organizations and wealthy Outside donors that have spent millions of dollars defending Alaska’s confusing jungle primary and ranked choice voting system.
“Repeal Now is pleased to announce additional support from Aurora Action Network,” the Repeal Now campaign said Friday. “We are honored that the donors to Aurora Action Network see ending ranked choice voting in Alaska as being a project worthy of attention and resources.”
Aurora Action Network is registered with the Federal Election Commission and can accept unlimited contributions from individuals, corporations, and other political committees.
FEC records show that Aurora had raised more than $1.25 million through June 30, before the latest Musk money was reported today in its filing.
Earlier contributors to the Aurora Action Network included Pennsylvania billionaire investor Jeff Yass, who gave $675,000; Restoration of America PAC, which gave $250,000; and businessman Timothy Mellon, who contributed $50,000. The committee also received dozens of smaller contributions from a number of Alaskans.
Conservative activist and retired Alaska Airlines pilot Bob Griffin of Anchorage is the chair of Aurora Action.
Repeal Now Chair Judy Eledge said her organization has struggled to compete with the enormous sums poured into Alaska by national groups supporting the retention of the confusing ranked-choice voting system Alaska has used since 2022.
“It’s hard to even put into words the gratitude that we feel that these titans of industry would show interest in our small state that has, for so long now, been picked on in a big way by special-interest supporters of ranked choice voting,” Eledge said.
Both sides of the 2026 fight are receiving substantial support from billionaires and organizations based outside Alaska. The principal group opposing Ballot Measure 2 has received major support from Unite America PAC, whose financial network has included Texas billionaire John Arnold and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
The flood of national money follows the extraordinarily close 2024 repeal election, when the first attempt to repeal ranked choice voting failed by just 737 votes — roughly two-tenths of 1% of all ballots cast.
In that campaign, repeal supporters were heavily outspent by organizations seeking to preserve the system. Repeal Now says opponents of ranked choice voting have at times been outspent by nearly 100-to-1 when spending from previous election cycles and national advocacy groups is considered.
“We thank these donors for all that they are doing to ensure Alaskans will no longer have their voices drowned out by dark money supporters of ranked choice voting,” the campaign said.
Ballot Measure 2 on the November ballot would repeal the top-four primary and ranked choice voting system adopted by voters in 2020. It would restore party-based primary elections and return the general election to the traditional system in which voters select one candidate and the candidate receiving the most votes wins.
The latest $1 million contribution ensures that, unlike in 2024, the repeal campaign will have significant resources for advertising, voter outreach and get-out-the-vote operations during the final three months of the election cycle.
Repeal Now is asking Alaskans to vote “Yes” on Ballot Measure 2 on Nov. 3. The campaign is organizing volunteers and accepting donations at YesEndRCV.com.
