July 19, 2026 – US House Speaker Mike Johnson will make his first trip to Alaska in early August, traveling through the Railbelt with Congressman Nick Begich as the freshman Republican prepares for his first reelection campaign.
Details of Johnson’s itinerary have not yet been released, but the visit is expected to last three or four days during the first week of August. Begich will accompany the speaker as he meets with Alaskans and learns more about the state’s communities, industries and priorities.
“Nick Begich fights for Alaska every day and has helped deliver American energy dominance, working families tax cuts, a stronger economy, secure borders, and peace through strength,” Speaker Johnson said. “Nick will always defend Alaska values and the principles that have made America great, especially as he faces far-left opponents who back Bernie Sanders. I am proud to endorse Nick and look forward to joining him in Alaska as we work to defend and grow our House Republican majority.”
The visit will also give Johnson an opportunity to highlight Begich’s record-setting accomplishments during his first term in Congress. Begich has quickly gained influence in the Republican-controlled House while working to advance Alaska resource development, strengthen the state’s military and Arctic position, and push back against federal policies restricting access to Alaska lands.
A visit by a sitting House speaker is a relatively rare event in Alaska. The most recent confirmed trip was in July 2013, when then-Speaker John Boehner of Ohio traveled to the state with longtime Alaska Congressman Don Young.
Boehner and Young toured rural Alaska to hear about the challenges and opportunities facing remote communities. The speaker also visited the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward and attended a fundraiser in Anchorage.
Johnson’s upcoming visit carries added political significance because Begich is seeking a second term after defeating Democrat Mary Peltola in 2024. Begich is now facing Bill Hill, an undeclared candidate who has said he would caucus with Democrats if elected.
The August tour will put the speaker of the House alongside Begich in front of voters across the population center of the state, offering Alaskans a close look at the relationship their congressman has developed with Republican leadership in Washington.
More information about Johnson’s schedule and public appearances is expected as the visit draws closer.

Oh, no!! Very risky move by Nick Begich, considering all of the personal baggage Mike Johnson is currently dealing with! Oh, well.
They should invite Brandon Gill up here at the same time and they can have a Greatest Hair in Congress competition.
Who is this visit helping Begich with? The boomer cons are already all in for Begich and that is the only group Johnson appeals to.
As politics is a game of addition, Begich needs help with the disaffected right that are wavering or indifferent- the rightist independents, traditionalists and libertarians. A Johnson visit is hostile to those parts of the right.
Have to agree with that. Maybe he is coming up to go fishing. But he comes across as to boring for that.
When did Mr. Hill state that he would “caucus with Democrats if elected”?

Christina, don’t be stupid. Used your head and think. Who will Bill hill caucus with? He has no good standing with AKGOP to say he’ll caucus with the House Republicans, Rev Matt Shultz (a Democrat) is strongly urging his supporters to vote for Hill, and if Hill became a party of one like a Wasilla’s Eastman he’ll get nothing done for Alaska among a multitude of congressman.
Hill doesn’t have to say out loud who he’ll caucus with the Democrats. Actions speak louder than words.

I wish Speaker Johnson had a few minutes to help me out too. Nicholas gets all of the attention. But I need help if I’m going to beat out Shelley Hughes, Treg and Bernadette. Otherwise, I’m going to depend on old voter rolls, late mail-in, and ballot harvesting.

I was told if I just paid $4.50 for gas and shut up we could roll Iran in two weeks.
Five months later, gas is still $4.50 and Americans are still dying. Is speaker Mike Johnson worried about any of this?
