When the Anchorage Assembly meets Tuesday night, members will decide whether to approve Mayor Suzanne LaFrance’s nominee Tasha Boyer Dunbar to the Sister City Commission, an appointment that is raising eyebrows after Dunbar’s earlier public comments about former President Donald Trump.
Boyer Dunbar’s résumé, included in the Assembly packet, highlights academic credentials from Yale, a Fulbright scholarship, work in research and marketing, and volunteer roles with the Yale Alumni Schools Committee and Pulse Dance Company. It also notes her recent participation on Mayor LaFrance’s transition team. She is married to Democrat State Sen. Forrest Dunbar.
But her résumé does not include what many Anchorage residents may remember her for: her public protest of this summer’s historic meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, and her recorded comment that she hoped Trump’s plane would crash.
According to reporting from the Alaska Landmine, Boyer Dunbar joined a large crowd of demonstrators waving Ukrainian-flag colors during the July visit. Dressed in a blue-and-yellow outfit and holding a sign that read “I can see fascists from my house,” she was interviewed by multiple international media outlets, including Rolling Stone, the BBC, and news organizations from Japan, France, and Australia.
During one exchange, a reporter asked her what she would be thinking when Trump and Putin landed in Alaska. Her response:
Boyer Dunbar: “I hope the plane crashes.”
Reporter: “Which one?”
Boyer Dunbar: “Why not both?”
She also posted a photo to social media carrying a sign labeling Trump a “fascist.”
Boyer Dunbar’s résumé makes no mention of her protest activity. Instead, it lists positions in executive recruiting, small business ownership, research, higher-education programs, and earlier political experience as a communications volunteer for Recall Dunleavy and as an intern in Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s Washington, D.C. office. It also highlights her role on the LaFrance mayoral transition team this year.
The Sister City Commission is charged with promoting cultural, educational, and economic ties between Anchorage and cities abroad. The body typically operates with little controversy, but Tuesday’s vote could spotlight questions over whether appointees should disclose politically charged statements or actions that may affect their public service. Two of Anchorage’s sister cities are in Russia, although their status is suspended due to geopolitical disagreements.
The appointment appears as item 10.D.31 for the Dec. 2 meeting under the consent agenda. Consent agenda items are supposed to be noncontroversial, but there are so many on this agenda perhaps the Marxists in charge of Anchorage government thought it would not be noticed.
Whether Assembly members raise concerns over Boyer Dunbar’s past statements, including her death wish for Trump during a visit to Anchorage, will become clear once the gavel falls Tuesday evening.

Violent rhetoric like this has no place in our democracy. We settle disputes at the ballot box, not in wishing the death of our opponents.
Trump said the six congress members in the military video should be hanged, put to death. That ok with you Don?
Where is documentation of him saying that? He said the crime they could be charged with has a penalty of death. That is not the same thing. Quit gaslighting.
Thanks one again for demonstrating you guys really aren’t gonna like playing under your new rules. After years of dishing out the violent rhetoric, you are shocked, simply shocked at getting some return fire? Better buckle up, Buttercup, cause its gonna get a lot worse. Enjoy your new world. you spent a lot of energy building it. Cheers –
An inconvenient time for a first time mother taking on a large enough project when she has a newborn
I don’t get mothers who don’t have to work, she will overwork herself when a baby needs her undivided attention in at least the first twelve months of his life if not longer up to five years depending on the child God gave the parent.
This is the reason why Alaska children are illiterate and poorly developed, because of not enough attention and literacy development during those first five years by their parents
She seems nice. /s
Is she the face of a humane and/or heterosexual Dunbar?
I confess, I’m confused…
So Forrest is not gay ? Besides that , this woman is cray cray.
No surprise here. VA just elected a democrat as state Attorney General who wished for young kids of a fellow Republican in the legislature dead so she could fell a bit of pain. This is who and what the democrats are these days, theater kids, cosplaying their way into infamy. Cheers –
There is one thing does it really matter who they appoint to the commission? The whole board are also liberals or leftists. Seeing the board they are All women like where are the men? Even if they did have a man on their commission he’d be a man without balls.
Beard. And a nasty one at that.
