Alaskan Dream Cruises shuts down operations, cancels all future sailings

Alaskan Dream Cruises, a longtime small-ship cruise operator in Southeast Alaska, has ceased operations effective immediately, according to a statement issued Wednesday evening.

“Effective immediately, Alaskan Dream Cruises has ceased business operations and will no longer be operating future sailings,” the company said, calling the closure a strategic decision.

The cruise line framed the move as part of a shift in business priorities.

“This decision reflects a deliberate realignment of the company’s business focus to strengthen its core operations and ensure long-term sustainability,” the statement said.

Owner Jamey Cagle said the decision came after evaluating the company’s long-term objectives.

“This decision was intentional and necessary,” Cagle said. “After careful evaluation of our long-term objectives, we determined that concluding cruise operations allows us to responsibly focus our resources where they will have the greatest impact.”

“Since 2011, Alaskan Dream Cruises has had the privilege of sharing the wonders of Alaska and the richness of our Alaska Native heritage with incredible guests from across the globe. It has been an equal honor to work alongside extraordinary communities, partners and crew,” the statement said.. “We are deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in us over the past 15 years. Thank you for the lasting relationships we’ve built and for allowing us to be part of your Alaskan stories.”

Passengers with existing reservations were notified via email regarding refunds.

Alaskan Dream Cruises is owned by Allen Marine and had operated seasonal sailings on US-flagged ships in Alaska since 2011.

The company had four vessels in its fleet:  the Chichagof Dream, Admiralty Dream, Alaskan Dream, and Baranof Dream — totaling 223 berths. All four ships are currently laid up in Sitka.

Allen Marine is a major player in Alaska’s cruise and tourism industry, with extensive shore excursion infrastructure throughout the region. the company indicated that Allen Marine’s other operations will not be affected by the shutdown.
