Meltdown mode: Constant erupts at Assembly meeting, accuses McCormick of “misinformation” over meal spending criticism

Feb. 4, 2026 – A tense exchange erupted during Tuesday night’s Anchorage Assembly meeting when Assembly Chairman Chris Constant lashed out at Assemblyman Keith McCormick, accusing him of spreading “misinformation and disinformation” in the community and causing a “sickness.”

The confrontation came as McCormick has continued to raise objections to what he views as unnecessary taxpayer-funded perks for Assembly members — including meals provided during meetings that frequently stretch into the dinner hour.

McCormick, a conservative from South Anchorage whose social media videos routinely go viral and have attracted a large following, has made fiscal restraint a recurring theme. He has pointed out that he brings his own food rather than participating in taxpayer-provided meals.

But Constant appeared increasingly frustrated with McCormick’s public criticism, and during the meeting he sharply accused the first-term member of misleading the public. He also said McCormick, who holds a full-time job, doesn’t attend as many meetings as Constant does.

Constant described it as “the sickness that is arising from the misinformation being intentionally generated” by the member from South Anchorage.

McCormick immediately pushed back, calling a point of order and objecting to Constant’s comments as an improper attack on his motives. But Constant was allowed to continue attacking McCormick, who is one of three conservatives of the 12 Assembly members.

Under Assembly rules, members are not supposed to impugn one another’s intent during debate, a standard designed to keep meetings from devolving into personal feuds.

The back-and-forth quickly escalated, with Constant growing defensive and visibly angry as McCormick calmly challenged both the accusation and the tone coming from the chair.

  1. This is what conservatives are talking about this is a service (of many) where assembly members and mayor can cut out of the budget. Now! There are bigger savings of cuts of taxpayer money that can be redirected (that just little meals) toward paying for such neighborhood road repairs, construction contracts, and added maintenance personnel and new snow plowing equipment.
Neighbors deserve the taxpayer dollars to repair, strip, and repave even renovate streets for better and safer traveling that what we been driving and walking and bicycling over.
There is a lot more that can be redirected away from people, programs, non profits, and city employment contributing very little to Anchorage except keeping a few people living comfortably at taxpayer’s expense. While the neighborhood roads make vehicles see a car shop more than it should becsuse of poorly maintained roadways making taxpayers pay double to take care of their vehicles. First they have to pay the taxes of this muni them they have to pay the maintenance repairs to keep their cars working.

    1. Anchorage neighbors deserve better than how other 20% of voters (the democrats) have been voting. Even those Democrats deserve better than who they voting for because they have to drive over our crappy streets too. They too don’t deserve to be paying triple just like those of us on the other 20% voting for the candidate not a democrat. That’s what their current Democrat elect are asking from their voters to quadruple what they give to the muni: Pay a sales tax, plus approve bonds for infrastructure while we don’t cut the budget continuing to increase taxpayers expenses with every bond passed, and continue paying for the excessive maintenance of your vehicles because of driving over poorly maintained neighborhood roadways.

My question is How much longer will the 20% of democrats on the other side of us will put up with these kind of needless spending even as something as little as food for Assembly members whom waistlines Show they don’t need the extra meal. A fact they only need to bring an apple and bottle water to each meeting that would be suffice to keep them going. Besides the meals that are prepared for them. I want to know how much of it ends up the garbage? Because in the food n service hospitality much of the foods prepared do end up in the garbage. That is what has been open and left and unopened.

    1. It wouldn’t be his last meeting. He likely will stay involved even serving on his Neighborhood district council. If he is smart and knows all leaders don’t retire. They are just reassigned.
Unless in his neighborhood district council enough of his Republican and conservative neighbors are stepping up today so to challenge him and keep him an audience member at their council meetings.

      1. Save the money not to buy balloons and cake for his last Assembly meeting. It’ll be a waste of financial resources The money for balloons and cake could help a struggle single mother Anchorage keep gas in her tank even an oil change or get a couple new outfits for her baby or toddler, or help her pay for her six months of a Geico car insurance plan at 38.00 a month.

        1. I get it Tina, reading comprehension is hard. Floating an idea and actually doing it are different things. Since you must already know someone, who needs $38 for car insurance a month, I suggest you take your own advice.
BTW in my opinion community councils have no power and are routinely ignored by the assembly and please explain what you mean by “leaders are just reassigned”. You do know that we vote people into office (unlike in the old Soviet Union) right?

      2. He will certainly try to run for Mayor at some point. He already controls the current one and he’ll go through withdrawals once he’s no longer the petty Tyrant of the assembly. the symptoms will be rough for him

  2. Chris Constant clearly likes the mandated perks he gets from the assembly so I guarantee he’s going to run for another office – just to keep the free ride going. We have to find the morons who voted for him in the first place and either get them to move out of state or keep from voting.

  3. Mr. Constant will continue to have these tantrums until he leaves office in June. He has an overwhelming – even psychotic – demand for attention. Once he leaves office he will be ignored by most people. Chris cannot bear the thought of that happening. He wants to continue in political office (the power!) but it would require that he run against another Leftist.

A question for readers: Has there ever been a more offensive or more obnoxious member of the Anchorage Assembly? Nominations are now open.
