Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom, a declared candidate for governor of Alaska, is the latest guest on the Northern Ledger, the podcast produced at The Alaska Story.
In the episode, host John Quick sits down with Dahlstrom for an extended conversation about her decision to enter the race and the priorities shaping her campaign.
During the interview, Dahlstrom outlines the major issues she plans to emphasize as she seeks the state’s top job, including Alaska’s energy future, public safety challenges, and the direction of the state’s education system. The discussion also explores how her years in public service have influenced her approach to leadership and policy, and how that experience informs her vision for Alaska moving forward.
Dahlstrom has served as Alaska’s 17th lieutenant governor since December 2022, after being elected as running mate to Gov. Mike Dunleavy. She joined the gubernatorial ticket following the retirement of former Lt. Gov. Kevin Meyer, who chose not to seek a second term.
Born Aug. 13, 1957, in Baltimore, Maryland, Dahlstrom was raised in Smithfield, Utah, and moved to Alaska shortly after graduating from high school. She previously served as a Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives, representing both the 18th and later the 13th districts.
In 2018, she was elected to represent the 13th District in the state House but declined to be seated after accepting an appointment as commissioner of the Alaska Department of Corrections on behalf of Gov. Dunleavy. Dahlstrom led the department until May 2022, when she resigned to join Dunleavy’s reelection campaign as his running mate.
Beyond her legislative and executive experience, Dahlstrom’s career background includes work as a marketing and sales consultant, as well as roles in public and regulatory affairs.
Listeners to The Northern Ledger episode will hear Dahlstrom discuss the themes she intends to highlight throughout the campaign and the issues she believes will define Alaska’s next chapter. The full podcast episode is available through The Alaska Story’s Northern Ledger platform. That’s where you’ll find all of our podcasts, which can also be heard on most other podcast platforms.

Well, I’m not going to vote for Nancy and, this gubernatorial race on the republican side is shaping up to be a giant mess with the Ranked Choice Voting soon to claim its next victim. Since the left limits their selections to one or two people, our side splits in into a mass of egocentric Republicans, Conservatives and Libertarians. So, when it comes time to fight it out at the polls, the pissing matches begin, the left votes outside their party to ensure that weak “republicans” make it to the General and then… the rest is history. Murkowski has been re-elected this way since RCV began – thanks to her and Susan Collins’ attorney and the outside money funnels. IMHO, our only three choices are Shelley Hughes, Mike Shower and… and I hate to say it… Bernadette Wilson. Why Shower and Wilson don’t switch roles is beyond me but, hey, things are already circling the drain.
Why not Bronson?
IMHO…. he took a continual, politically motivated beating by the Assembly and the dust up between he and Amy Demboski didn’t help – and I thought that SHE was totally in the wrong. Especially when Any IMMEDIATELY ran to the ADN and KTUU with her gripes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m supporter of Bronson but, not at this particular time.
