A multi-agency task force searched seven residences, and seized more than a pound of methamphetamine, three firearms and over $18,000 on Wednesday. That’s around 2,000 lethal doses of meth. Law enforcement estimated the Fairbanks-area street value of the seized drugs at between $11,200 and $12,800.
Ten people were arrested during the drug-enforcement operation targeting multiple residences in Fairbanks and North Pole.
The operation followed investigations conducted since March by the Fairbanks Areawide Narcotics Team into several people suspected of trafficking drugs from multiple locations in the two communities.
Between 6 am and 3 pm on Sept. 16, officers executed search warrants at seven Fairbanks-area residences. More than 50 people were contacted during the operation. One in five were arrested.
The operation involved the Alaska State Troopers Special Weapons and Tactics team, the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Fairbanks office and Special Response Team, Alaska High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area investigators, the Fairbanks Crime Suppression Unit, FBI, US Marshals Service, Fairbanks Police Department, University of Alaska Fairbanks Police Department and North Pole Police Department.
The names of those arrested and the charges filed against them had not yet been released as of Thursday. The investigation remains ongoing.
