A mysterious campaign sign for former Rep. David Eastman appeared this week at the corner of Corgi Place and the Parks Highway, in House District 27, where Rep. Jubilee Underwood now serves after unseating Eastman in the 2024 general election.
The placement is unmistakable: The sign sits next to the street marker, planted where thousands of commuters can see it. But Eastman himself says he had nothing to do with it.
When contacted, Eastman said he didn’t know anything about the sign. He has not filed for office, which means he cannot legally post campaign signage, a detail that points to someone else sending a message on his behalf, whether welcome or not.
The district, centered around the conservative core of the Mat-Su, is one of the reddest in Alaska. For years, Eastman held the title of the Legislature’s most hardline conservative, routinely staking out the right flank on fiscal and social issues.
Underwood, who defeated him on a promise of more consensus-style leadership, has taken a noticeably more moderate path since arriving in Juneau.
That moderation has not gone unnoticed.
As she has aligned herself with more centrist Republicans, the conservative base back home has grown increasingly restless. In that context, the sudden appearance of an Eastman sign in December, long before the 2026 election cycle has even begun, Â reads less like a mistake and more like a political prank. Or perhaps, for some conservatives, a shot across her bow.
Who is trying to send a message and what exactly is that message?

I’d forgotten Opie got his ass kicked. Just the happy reminder I needed after a rough day.
Actually, not really. Underwood 3856, Eastman 3660. Fairly close.
Which, if you put two and two together.. means Underwood defeated Eastman using a united Democrat/Rino electorate. Eastman was a victim of RCV. If RCV had not been a factor, Eastman would have easily beaten Underwood for the Republican ticket. RCV continues to damage our state.
The message is someone wants Matsu Republicans to be more conservative and to fight for Republican principles and values EVEN when it means they will be left out like how was Eastman treated.
You know how the Left stick together all being the stick in the mudd not moving forward evenwhile the world is crashing on their heads. Well Eastman was the Right’s version of how the Left acts only he was firm on Far right principles and values. It’s an example how Republicans whether or not they hold a majority or minority should act out the Eastman Rebellion especially when their votes might be able to stall democrats moving forward.
I think that sign came out because someone is fearful. They see like I see Matsu is going blue and faster than I predicted. It’ll be blue before 2030.
“…the Left stick together…”
Exactly, because that’s how low-down commie rats operate.
