Sign attacking Sullivan goes up illegally on DOT right-of-way in Anchorage

March 18, 2026b – A political sign criticizing US Sen. Dan Sullivan appeared Tuesday on state right-of-way at the busy corner of Raspberry Road and Jewel Lake Road in Anchorage.

The sign, installed by the Outside dark-money group “907 Initiative,” features an image of Sullivan alongside the message: “Alaskans can’t afford yes-man Dan Sullivan.” The placement is on state-owned right-of-way land, where such signage is prohibited.

Such  signs at this location are typically removed within days by DOT, sometimes hours, particularly during election season.

The sign comes as Alaska’s US Senate race begins to take shape, with former Rep. Mary Peltola challenging Sullivan. Peltola, a Democrat, lost her at-large congressional seat in 2024 to Republican Nick Begich.

The white van that brought the sign to the location at the corner of Jewel Lake and Raspberry Road.

The messaging on the sign mirrors broader Democrat attacks tying Sullivan to President Donald Trump. But recent election results suggest a complication for the 907 Initiative: Alaska voters supported Trump with more than 53% of the vote in the last presidential election cycle, while Peltola’s loss to Begich restored Republican strength to the congressional delegation.

Enforcement of right-of-way restrictions can become a flashpoint during campaigns, particularly if applied unevenly. DOT has been aggressive in the past at removing signs promoting Republicans.

It remains unclear how long the sign will stay in place or whether DOT crews will remove it.

  1. “…….. installed by the Outside dark-money group “907 Initiative”………..”
Tell us more about this “group”. Is it a non-profit corporation? A legal political action entity? Who is the legal leader? When did they legally form? Etc?

  2. Does 907 Initiative also state that NoShow Peltola missed 40-50% of the votes during her term as a Representative? But she would say that her excuse could be bathroom breaks, fishing, etc. You know, all legitimate excuses.
