Mary Peltola gets a hard-left endorsement that may fall flat in Alaska

March 11, 2026 – Alaska senatorial candidate Mary Peltola has picked up a new endorsement in her campaign for the US Senate — from Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, a radical Democrat from Minnesota whose political positions may resonate with liberal activists but are likely to face skepticism among many Alaska voters.

Flanagan, the lieutenant governor under Tim Walz, announced her endorsement of Peltola as the booted Alaska congresswoman continues building national support ahead of the 2026 Senate race.

Flanagan is a member of Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, the state’s Democrat Party affiliate, and has built a reputation among supporters as a champion of abortion, gun laws, and the welfare state.

When she ran for office, Flanagan had the endorsements of Democrats such as Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and former Minnesota senator Al Franken, political figures who enjoy strong support among Democratic activists but historically have not polled well with Alaska’s broader electorate.

Flanagan has championed policies that align with the Marxist wing of the Democrat Party. Her policy agenda has included expanding government programs such as universal school meals, paid family and medical leave, expanded abortion, and enacting more gun control.

Flanagan has also pushed policies to benefit racial groups, specifically Indigenous organizations. A member of the White Earth Nation (a federally recognized Minnesota tribe), she has promoted tribal sovereignty, Indigenous education, and race-based representation in government.

Flanagan’s positions on social issues have drawn particular attention. She has strongly pushed abortion expansion in Minnesota and has backed legislation codifying abortion rights, following the 2022 US Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. Minnesota legislation repealed a “born-alive” reporting requirement for infants who survive abortion attempts.

Flanagan has also supported gender-tinkering medical policies for underage “transgender” youth. The policies represent a radical shift in child welfare policy.

Flanagan has also drawn criticism over immigration issues, specifically for fighting immigration enforcement and for her encouragement of activists to monitor or protest federal immigration actions.

For Peltola, endorsements from prominent national Democrats can help build fundraising networks and national visibility as she prepares for the Senate race.

But in Alaska, a state where voters supported Donald Trump for president three times, endorsements from high-profile radical figures can be hazardous to a campaign.

Did Schumer Democrats spend hundreds of thousands just to pressure Mary Peltola into Senate race?

  1. Peltola can’t get support in-state so she’s trying for Outside. This just shows how much she is out of touch with Alaskans. You’d think that she would know Alaskans don’t like to be told by anyone what to do, much less who to vote for.

  2. It’s so sad that DOGE was abandoned by the Republicans and even Trump. Getting rid of the NGO’s is what causes all these leftists. with NGO salaries in six digits now violating the whole idea of a NGO. The idea is that the large salary allows for large contributions to these causes which gets them their large salaries. R’s never learn and panic at the first sign of any resistance.
