California county declares itself a Second Amendment sanctuary in response to new California ‘no Glock’ gun law

The Madera County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to declare the county a Second Amendment Sanctuary, passing the resolution 4-0 with one abstention.

The resolution expresses the county’s support for the constitutional right to keep and bear arms and signals opposition to any law that could be viewed as an unconstitutional restriction on that right. The measure passed without amendments.

The move comes in response to recent gun control legislation signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom earlier this month. Assembly Bill 1127 bans the sale of firearms that can be readily converted into fully automatic weapons. While it does not name specific manufacturers, its language effectively restricts the sale of certain Glock models in California.

The Madera County resolution affirms that the Second Amendment is a fundamental right and emphasizes support for responsible firearm ownership. It also calls on the Madera County Sheriff’s Office to continue processing concealed carry permit applications promptly and to ensure that free training remains available for eligible residents.

Although largely symbolic, the declaration places Madera County among a growing number of jurisdictions across the United States that have adopted “Second Amendment Sanctuary” status to signal opposition to state or federal gun control measures.

Madera County lies at the geographic center of California, encompassing parts of the eastern San Joaquin Valley and the central Sierra Nevada. The county, where a portion of Yosemite National Park is located, has a population of roughly 69,000 and is one of 58 counties in the state.

    1. While I was working down in Kern County during the first half of 2021, I saw vastly fewer idiots in Tehachapi, Bishop and even Bakersfield wearing masks and displaying all the other symptoms of Covidian Psychosis than was the case in Anchorage at the same time.
