Multiple people, including two National Guardsmen, were shot Wednesday afternoon just two blocks north of the White House, triggering a large law-enforcement response and a temporary lockdown of the executive complex.
Update: Both guardsmen who were shot are in critical condition, the president said in a statement.
Further Update: Both guardsman were from West Virginia. Both are critically wounded.
“The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price. God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!,” President Donald Trump wrote on TruthSocial.com.
The gunfire erupted just before 2:30 pm at 17th Street and I Street NW, beside Farragut Square Park and next to the entrance of the Club Quarters Hotel. A Washington, DC source said that at least three people were struck by bullets. Two of the victims were National Guardsmen and at least one of them was shot during an exchange of gunfire.
One of the wounded was transported by med-evac helicopter, while the other two were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals. Their conditions have not yet been released.
The Metropolitan Police Department said the scene had been secured and a shooting suspect was taken into custody shortly before 3 pm, Eastern Time. Police shut down several blocks surrounding the intersection as officers swept the area and established a perimeter. The White House was placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Moments after the shooting, numerous law-enforcement vehicles crowded the streets near Farragut Square, including Metropolitan Police units, Park Police vehicles and ambulances. NBC News cameras captured MPD cars lining the edge of the park as officers moved quickly to control the scene.
The White House press office said officials are aware of the situation, are actively monitoring developments, and that President Trump, who is currently in Florida, has been briefed. This story will be updated.

I’m waiting for Evan S. Singh to chime in after defending Murkowski for her criticism of Trump in regards to Mark Kelly and his band of Dog Whistlers. THIS is exactly what happens as the unhinged acolytes of Kelly’s party hit the streets to do his and his brain dead partners’ bidding. Do you see a pattern here, Singh Blade? The assassination of Charlie Kirk, Mostly Peaceful Protesting, and now THIS? All of the violence is coming from ONE side of the aisle and it isn’t the one you’re so adamantly against. Defend this latest atrocity, Evan. Kelly will tell you it was the gun’s fault. I’d love to hear your response and, I’m assuming everyone else in here would as well.
Is “singh” a foreigner? Musk revealed on X that many accounts on that site are foreign based. Involving themselves in negative ways in our American conversation. A pox on all of them.
Singh replies quite often in here, parroting the mainstream vomitus. If he found Trump’s National Guard deployment as “illegal orders”, was he equally vexed by Biden’s order for all members of the military to receive an illegal vaccine and, if refused, were discharged without pay and benefits? Seems like the left didn’t give two sh-ts about that one.
I wonder that Hans Litten isn’t right in there with Mr. Singh.
