Jan. 24, 2026 – A 51-year-old man wielding a Sig Sauer handgun was shot and killed Saturday during a violent confrontation with federal law enforcement officers in south Minneapolis, according to authorities.
Video recorded by a bystander and posted on social media shows multiple Border Patrol agents engaged in a physical struggle with the suspect on the ground. Moments later, several shots are heard, and the man is seen collapsing. Officials say the suspect was struck in the chest, CPR was performed at the scene, and he was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told the Associated Press that officers were responding to an armed individual and that the man possessed a Sig Sauer handgun and two magazines.
Authorities have not yet released the man’s name or further details about the events that led up to the confrontation. The shooting marks the third incident involving government agents amid heightened federal immigration enforcement operations under President Donald Trump’s administration.
Bystanders at the scene are heard on video shouting profanities at the officers, calling them “cowards” and telling them to leave.

Before any official investigation findings were released, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Rep. Ilhan Omar publicly condemned federal immigration officers and framed the incident as part of broader immigration enforcement operations.
“This is sickening,” Walz said in a social media post. “The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”
Walz said he contacted the White House following the shooting and described the incident as “horrific,” calling for an end to federal enforcement operations in the state.
Rep. Omar went further, characterizing the shooting as an “execution” and a “murder.”
“This isn’t isolated or accidental,” Omar said in a statement. “The Trump administration is trying to beat us into submission rather than protect us. This administration cannot continue violating constitutional rights under the guise of immigration enforcement. ICE and CBP must leave Minnesota immediately.”
“Their presence is terrorizing our communities, violating rights, and taking lives with zero accountability,” her statement continued. “Minnesota was once a place of refuge, and Trump has turned it into a war zone where unchecked federal forces murder our neighbors.”
The Department of Homeland Security wrote it this way:
“At 9:05 AM CT, as DHS law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault, an individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, seen here. The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. More details on the armed struggle are forthcoming. Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect also had 2 magazines and no ID—this looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.  About 200 rioters arrived at the scene and began to obstruct and assault law enforcement on the scene, crowd control measures were deployed for the safety of the public and law enforcement. This situation is evolving, and more information is forthcoming.”
Following the shooting, protesters gathered at the scene, confronting federal officers and law enforcement. According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, chaos erupted as agitators clashed with authorities, leading officers to deploy crowd-control measures, including tear gas, to restore order.

Protests continued into the night, with demonstrators denouncing federal law enforcement presence and immigration enforcement operations in the city.
As of publication, no body camera footage, official incident reports, or independent investigative findings have been released. Authorities have not announced whether state or federal agencies will conduct an external review of the shooting.

Wow, the politicians on the left are now mobilizing people in support of the lawlessness they’ve been demanding. This is open rebellion against the rule of law, the constitutional compact that governs our nation, and the very foundations of our society.
