Tulsi Gabbard to step down as DNI to care for husband battling rare bone cancer, promises final wave of bombshell disclosures

By THE ALASKA STORY

May 22, 2026 – Tulsi Gabbard announced Friday that she will resign as Director of National Intelligence at the end of June, citing her husband’s serious health battle as the reason for her departure from the Trump administration.

Gabbard said her husband, Abraham Williams, has been diagnosed with what she described as “an extremely rare form of bone cancer,” prompting her decision to leave public service and focus on supporting him through treatment.

“Unfortunately, after having done a great job, Tulsi Gabbard will be leaving the Administration on June 30th,” Donald Trump wrote Friday. “Her wonderful husband, Abraham, has been recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, and she, rightfully, wants to be with him, bringing him back to good health as they currently fight a tough battle together.”

Trump added that he believes Williams “will soon be better than ever” and praised Gabbard’s work leading the intelligence community.

Before departing, Gabbard plans to release findings tied to several high-profile investigations that have become central to the Trump administration’s transparency agenda, according to intelligence officials cited by The Daily Wire.

The releases are expected to come in weekly installments over the next month and will reportedly include findings related to Havana Syndrome, formally known as Anomalous Health Incidents, the origins and handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, alleged weaponization of the federal government, the 2020 presidential election, and other intelligence matters.

Gabbard served roughly 15 months as the nation’s top intelligence official, overseeing what supporters described as a sweeping effort to reform and streamline the intelligence community.

According to an intelligence official, Gabbard oversaw the declassification of more than 500,000 pages of government records by May 2026. Those disclosures included files connected to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., as well as records related to Amelia Earhart and Biden Administration domestic terrorism planning documents.

Her office also pursued aggressive restructuring efforts under what was dubbed the “ODNI 2.0” initiative, which officials said reduced agency staffing and overhead by more than 40%, generating an estimated $700 million in annual savings.

Gabbard additionally spearheaded a large-scale intelligence community technology and cybersecurity modernization effort earlier this year, describing it as the largest such initiative in US intelligence history.

“Over the past year, we have taken meaningful steps to begin fulfilling that responsibility through the largest IC-wide technology investment and modernization effort in history,” Gabbard said in an earlier statement. “President Trump’s Intelligence Community is moving faster and more decisively on cybersecurity modernization and investments in IT than ever before.”

The administration announced that Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas will serve as acting DNI after Gabbard’s departure.

Her resignation may set up another Senate confirmation test for the Trump Administration at a time when tensions between the White House and some Senate Republicans have intensified following Trump-backed primary challenges against Sens. John Cornyn and Bill Cassidy.

In a letter to Trump, Gabbard said her immediate focus is ensuring continuity at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

“I am fully committed to ensuring a smooth and thorough transition over the coming weeks so that you and your team experience no disruption in leadership or momentum,” she wrote.

“It has been a profound honor to serve the American people as DNI.”

  1. I wish Tulsi and her husband and her family well. May Jesus comfort them and heal her husband.

And a graceful exit for her from this burning sh*tshow of an administration. I think they are full neocon now.

    1. It’s unfortunate that you choose to lash out at others for your own ignorance. President Trump has been remarkably consistent in his words and actions that you now characterize as neocon. You either chose to ignore his words and action or you are choosing to believe the words of those who have spent a decade plus spreading lies.

        1. Performative virtue signaling isn’t really my thing. I don’t know Tulsi or her husband, if I did I wouldn’t be posting my well wishes in the comment section of an article and I certainly wouldn’t feel the need to wish her or her husband well while insulting the administration she has spent the last two years of her life working for.

      1. Steve-O, how remarkably consistent is “no new wars” and “energy prices will be halved in the first year of my administration”? Steve -what are you talking about? We can also throw in “I’m going to release all the Epstein files”!

        1. Damon,
Yes, remarkably consistent in his words and actions…
The war with Iran started in 1979, as far as I can tell Trump’s first comments on the subject of Iran came in 1980.
While serving as President in October 2017 Trump said “History has shown that the longer we ignore a threat, the more dangerous that threat becomes…Today, I am announcing our strategy, along with several major steps we are taking to confront the Iranian regime’s hostile actions and to ensure that Iran never, and I mean never, acquires a nuclear weapon.” He continued by listing some of the attacks by Iran on Americans “Beginning in 1979, agents of the Iranian regime illegally seized the U.S. embassy in Tehran and held more than 60 Americans hostage during the 444 days of the crisis. The Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah twice bombed our embassy in Lebanon — once in 1983 and again in 1984. Another Iranian-supported bombing killed 241 Americans — service members they were, in their barracks in Beirut in 1983.
In 1996, the regime directed another bombing of American military housing in Saudi Arabia, murdering 19 Americans in cold blood.
Iranian proxies provided training to operatives who were later involved in al Qaeda’s bombing of the American embassies in Kenya, Tanzania, and two years later, killing 224 people, and wounding more than 4,000 others.”
Here were the steps he announced in October of 2017
“First, we will work with our allies to counter the regime’s destabilizing activity and support for terrorist proxies in the region.
Second, we will place additional sanctions on the regime to block their financing of terror.
Third, we will address the regime’s proliferation of missiles and weapons that threaten its neighbors, global trade, and freedom of navigation.
And finally, we will deny the regime all paths to a nuclear weapon.”

In January 2020 Trump said “As long as I am President of the United States, Iran will never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.” He went on to say “Iran has been the leading sponsor of terrorism, and their pursuit of nuclear weapons threatens the civilized world. We will never let that happen.”

On 3 January 2020 Qasem Soleimani, the leading terrorist general in Iran was killed by a drone attack authorized by President Trump, in response to the years of terrorist attacks he led.

There are numerous other observations that support the fact that Trump has been remarkably consistent regarding this issue, even if his detractors refuse to accept years and years worth of evidence.

        2. Damon, you are predictably consistent.
Gas prices in Jan. 2025 were an average of $3.10, in Jan. 2026 the average price was $2.81. Compare that to Jan. 2021 at $2.80 to Jan. 2022 at $3.30.
Expecting to get gas prices of $1.50 is a bit silly even for you!
The war with Iran (1979 to present) is comparable to the cold war, yet we have had one hand tied behind our backs with international treaties and politicians demand for coalitions, while Iran uses proxy terrorist groups to keep up a constant fight.
Considering this administration is THE ONLY ONE, who has released ANY Epstein files, I am not sure what you are complaining about.
Oh and ditto to everything Steve-O stated.

  2. Tulsi’s father, Mike Gabbard, was an outspoken crusader against homosexuality and same sex marriages. He was a pastor based in Honolulu, where Tulsi was raised. A great family and patriotic Americans. Best to Tulsi and her husband.

    1. Don’t forget, Tulsi served our great country in uniform. So much better than the liberal wacks who hate America.
