April 8, 2026 – Click Bishop, a Fairbanks candidate for governor, has named Greta Schuerch as his running mate for lieutenant governor. This was widely expected in political circles, as it was known he would put an Alaska Native on his ticket.
She ran as a Democrat for House District 40 in 2012. Back then, she was endorsed by Mary Peltola, another Democrat. She has since switched to become a nonpartisan.

This adds a second Alaska Native candidate to the growing 2026 gubernatorial field.
Schuerch, a lifelong Alaskan from Kiana, currently serves as an at-large board director and vice chairman of the board for NANA Regional Corporation, which represents some 15,000 Iñupiat shareholders across Northwest Alaska and beyond. She also works as senior advisor for government and external affairs at Teck Alaska, where she leads local, state, and federal government relations for Red Dog Operations, with an emphasis on working with tribal governments, community leaders, and industry stakeholders.
Bernadette Wilson, who is also Alaska Native, is already in the mix as a candidate for governor; she has Aleut lineage.
The lieutenant governor’s office oversees elections, business licensing, and regulatory review.
The 2026 governor’s race continues to take shape ahead of the June 1 filing deadline. To date, 19 candidates have filed for the office, but just three of those gubernatorial candidates have running mates: Bernadette Wilson announced Sen. Mike Shower, Dave Bronson announced Josh Church, and now Click Bishop has picked Greta Schuerch.

Once a democrat always a democrat. Hope enough Alaskans won’t fall for the standard “I’m an independent” lie.
Or that Bishop is a Replican!
Republicans know that Click Bishop is a Democrat. He’s also a fraud in many ways. This will all come out in due course. Sorry Click, even a pretty, young Democrat Native girl standing next to you doesn’t improve your odds. We know who you really are.
100% nailed it.
Its Biden and Kamala.
LOL….Great grampa with Alzheimer’s and grand-daughter being taken to the prom.

Click Bishop is the only candidate for governor who spent his career working on the big construction projects in our state including the trans-Alaska pipeline and later overseeing worker training followed by an appointed by the governor to head the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. He had support from his mixed rural & urban voting district and spent his years in the state Senate working pragmatically for the good of Alaska without getting caught up in the petty fights of national party politics. Greta Schuerch is a solid addition to the ticket with her background as vice chair of the NANA Regional Corporation board of directors and senior advisor on government relations for the Canadian mining corporation Teck Resources. I’ll be voting for Bishop-Schuerch from Wrangell in the August 18 primary.
