Longest State of the Union in history: Trump highlights immigration crackdown, draws Democrat heckles

Feb. 24, 2026 – President Donald Trump delivered a marathon State of the Union address Tuesday night, speaking for more than one hour and 45 minutes, a duration that appeared to make it the longest such address in modern history. The speech, marked by themes of patriotism, sacrifice, and heroism, unfolded before a sharply divided chamber and featured repeated clashes with Democrats who interrupted and heckled throughout the evening. No members were removed for their disruptions.

At 79, with his 80th birthday approaching in June, Trump maintained high energy from start to finish, speaking without lengthy pauses, except for numerous standing ovations and shouts of “USA USA” from the Republicans. He closed with an optimistic vision of what he described as America’s greatest days ahead. His remarks centered heavily on border security, crime, and the dramatic economic turnaround since returning to office.

Trump argued that his administration inherited an economy “on the edge of disaster,” pointing to high inflation and instability, and said his policies have since slowed inflation, reduced crime rates, and effectively ended what he called “rampant illegal immigration.” He cited enforcement measures at the southern border and credited law enforcement agencies for what he described as restoring order in communities across the country.

Democrats repeatedly interrupted, with audible boos and shouted responses coming from their side of the aisle. Among the most vocal critics were Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, who at times shouted criticisms toward the president. At one point, a camera shot captured Tlaib wearing a jacket with a pin displaying an anti-ICE slogan (“FUCK ICE”  that was clearly visible on the broadcast. The interruptions were par for the course for Democrats.

Despite the confrontations, Trump pressed forward, frequently pivoting from criticism to celebration, highlighting what he described as stories of American heroism. Several invited guests were recognized during the speech, including members of the US military, veterans, and families who endured personal tragedy. In emotional moments, some service members in attendance received awards or special recognition from the president, drawing standing ovations from Republicans and mixed reactions from Democrats.

Noticeably absent from this year’s address was any substantial discussion of American energy policy. Unlike prior speeches in which he emphasized domestic oil and gas production, Trump made no direct reference to Alaska and offered only brief remarks about energy development. He also barely mentioned the recent Supreme Court decision striking down his administration’s tariff policy, choosing not to dwell on the setback.

Instead, the speech returned again and again to border enforcement and crime. Trump framed immigration as the defining issue of his presidency and said his administration’s actions had restored law and order nationwide, noting that crime is markedly down in the nation’s capital city, and singling out Minnesota as being problematic. He challenged Democrats to acknowledge what he called measurable improvements in economic indicators and border crossings, arguing that his policy record left them little room to argue.

The chamber’s atmosphere reflected the tension of a deeply polarized political climate. Republicans repeatedly rose in applause, while many Democrats remained seated or screamed objections. The back-and-forth exchanges gave the evening a combative tone, but one that did not appear to bother the president.

In his closing, Trump shifted to a sweeping patriotic message, praising the resilience of the American people and promising continued strength and prosperity under his leadership. After nearly two hours, he concluded to sustained applause from members of his party, having delivered a speech as notable for its length and stamina as for its sharp edges and bold message.

Selected quotes from President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech on Feb. 24, 2026:

Tonight, after just one year, I can say with dignity and pride that we have achieved a transformation like no one has ever seen before, and a turnaround for the ages. We will never go back to where we were just a short time ago.
***
From 1776 to today, every generation of Americans has stepped forward to defend life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for the next. Now, it is our turn. Together, we are building a nation where every child has the chance to reach higher and go farther—where government answers to the people, not the powerful—and where the interests of hardworking American Citizens are always our first and ultimate concern.
***
Moving forward, factories, jobs, investment, and trillions of dollars will continue pouring into the United States of America—because we finally have a president who puts America First.
For decades before I came along, we had the exact opposite. From trade to healthcare, from energy to immigration, everything was stolen and rigged in order to drain the wealth out of the productive, hardworking people who make our country run.
***
I am also ending the wildly inflated cost of prescription drugs. Other presidents tried to do it, but they never could. They were all talk and no action. I got it done.
***
Last month, I signed an Executive Order to ban large Wall Street investment firms from buying up, in the thousands, single-family homes. And now I am asking Congress to make that ban permanent, because homes are for people, not corporations.
***
But when it comes to the corruption that is plundering America, there has been no more stunning example than Minnesota—where members of the Somali community have pillaged an estimated $19 billion dollars from the American taxpayer.
***
As we speak, Democrats in this chamber have cut off all funding for the Department of Homeland Security. They have closed the agency responsible for protecting Americans from terrorists and murderers. Tonight, I am demanding the full and immediate restoration of all funding for the Border Security and Homeland Security of the United States.
***
Above all, unleashing America’s promise requires keeping our communities safe. We have made incredible strides—yet dangerous repeat offenders continue to be released by pro-crime politicians again and again.
***
As President, I will make peace wherever I can—but I will never hesitate to confront threats to America wherever we must.
***
We are also restoring American security and dominance in the Western Hemisphere—actingto secure our national interests and defend our country from violence, drugs, terrorism, and foreign interference. For years, large swaths of territory in our region, including large parts of Mexico, have been controlled by murderous drug cartels.
***
The Revolution that began in 1776 has not ended—it still continues, because the flame of Liberty and Independence still burns in the hearts of every American Patriot.

  1. Our state of the union is a mess due, in part, to the facts and inferences in the Epstein files. Weird as hell that Donald Trump didn’t mention trying to get a blow job from a 13-15 year old girl, right? Did you read about that? Felon Perv forced the girl’s face onto his hard-on, she bit his unit and then he hit her.

Given all the evidence and what we know of this expert con man, what do you think, did President Trump fuck little girls? We don’t have the smoking dick yet, but what’s your best guess?

    1. Mr. Evan, you are a disgusting person. If you are representative of the average Democrat, then there is little wonder why your party is in the sewer. You are in the sewer. Which country did you sneak-in from?

      1. “Julia” is such a beautiful name. But apparently in this instance it belies the bearer’s caustic personality.

And by the way, “sneak-in” should not be hyphenated.

    2. (sigh) Document it TDS idiot – you lie like no other… entitled to your opinion you are, but you could at least clean up your potty-mouth.

      1. We all have TDS. Yours is just in the opposite direction than ours. That’s what Trump does. He divides, sets us against each other, and then enjoys watching the carnage he’s unleashed. It’s all he knows. His daddy really screwed him up, didn’t he?

        A bloated orange obscenity.

      2. Rich. Potty mouth isn’t my first language. I never speak the terms I wrote here but I feel it’s important to focus on the vulgarity of the Epstein disaster. Using vague terms like sexual abuse, molestation and trafficking don’t convey the horror.

    3. That’s quite the claim you are making there Evan, one you recently admitted as being based upon “a thin unsubstantiated claim”. Are you now basing your claim upon something completely different, or do you base most of your opinion of others on thin unsubstantiated information?

    4. Evan, I think it is high time you met me behind the shop class and I teach you some manners. When I am done with you, Hans it might as well be your turn.

    5. Evan has zero proof for his nasty accusations. He suffers from TDS which proves he’s mentally challenged.
He probably fantasizes about being Murkowski’s chief of staff. I suggest a visit to a professional. Sometimes life becomes more enjoyable after a few sessions? Please consider it, maybe there’s hope?

  2. When you put Trump side-by-side with Joe Biden on SOU address, Trump looks like Einstein and Biden ………like a complete retard. The comparison is stunning. And yet, …..Democrats cheer on the retard. What does that tell you?

  3. Thank you Suzanne – I did not have the opportunity to watch the SoU speech. Nice summary. How can the democrats be so motivated to destroy our nation and civilization? I hope and pray our side can keep power for a long time to come.

    1. Fifteen minutes was all I could bear. So I turned on some Bach on YouTube and enjoyed the rest of the evening.

      1. Good idea. Soft music to calm your emotions is a good prescription. I wish your ideological companions would follow your example.

  4. Alaskans need to get their act together or grow up I guess before we can be blessed into building another pipeline
I guess it’ll be a long time (like boomers will be passed, GenX will be in the assisted living homes) before Alaska builds a new pipeline

  5. I did not watch the speech and had a pleasant dinner. Will review a transcript later. Otherwise used the time productively.

Many years ago, in a different era, I attended this event in person. Sat a short distance away from the First Lady’s box. The partisan theater of today is tedious.

    1. Same here. I don’t need to watch the SOTU speech to know what the state of the union is in. This page is enough to know how precarious it is.

  6. I find the disparaging remarks and hate towards Democrats tedious. So are you REALLY saying half of America is to be hated? Just wanted to clarify the nastiness of the remarks about Democrats.

    1. Unfortunately, yes, that’s exactly what he’s saying. Especially if your skin is not white. And I think “reprehensible” is a much better word choice than “tedious”, although it is that as well.

    2. I wouldn’t call comments against Republicans and Democrats hate. It’s as sibling rivalry as two government styles should be as Esau and Jacob fighting in the womb or Perez and Zerah fighting until Perez broke through to be the First born!
The groups represent different governments how the members think the country should be controlled under.
Its leaders are to be at odds against one another. Democrats are better at maintaining their “hate” and its unity against Republicans than Republicans have been against Democrats. Republicans hadn’t had a Strong leader like Trump to had Unified the membership as he does. Democrats aren’t used to a Republican leader keeping the GoP members somewhat more unified than they were the last thirty years. They had enjoyed a splintered party tripping over all the division within it because of diversity of its groups within the GOP.

      1. In Melania film you know what the only Unity and Peace that comes out of Trump’s terms? It’s not a more unified and peaceful country. It’s a more unified and peaceful Republican membership where its membership are somewhat more unified and living more at peace with one another. I think as soon as Trump finishes his term, the Republicans will regress back into their groups or cliques and R leaders will go wherever looks good to them just as we see of Alaska R leadership leading they go ever which direction that looks good to the individual but not for the Party or Team.

    3. That isn’t what I heard. Where did the President say half of America is to be hated? He was referring to behavior, much very uncalled for and pretty awful.

    4. First Dee, a little introspection may be in order, as anyone with even a conservative thought has been called all kinds of nasty names by those very democrats you make out to be the victim here.
Second democrats claim to be the party having a monopoly on tolerance, inclusion and compassion, yet they can not be bothered to stand for a little boy with cancer or the mother of a murdered young IMMIGRANT woman, but I suppose you did not see that.
Hate and feelings should not be part of governing. Most conservative I know don’t hate anyone simply because of they political leanings. They disagree, but disagreement is part of democracy and healthy to make good decisions.
I would also like to point out that when you get disgusting filth from the likes of Evan and then you say nothing to distance yourself but complain about “nastiness toward democrats” it rings very hollow indeed!

      1. Thanks Taxpayer, you said it well.

One could go on and on about the small mindedness, hate, rudeness and failures of the democrat party but their folks like Dee and Evan exhibit, explain such without our help.

    5. Hate Democrats? No. Disparage Democrats? Yes.
      .
If Democrats -don’t- stand for closing borders, reducing inflation, increasing energy production, creating jobs, record-setting stock market performance, heroic WWII vets, a heroic Coast Guard rescue swimmers,
      .
freeing Venezuelans from dictatorship, a heroic helicopter pilot, allowing no state to rip children from their parents’ arms and transition them to a new gender against the parents’ will,
      .
funding Homeland Security, ending congressional insider trading, ending real estate and private equity firms monopoly of private home sales, ending wars, making home mortgages more affordable, negotiating foreign-trade equity, praising the U.S. hockey team, ending illegal-alien drivers, deporting illegal-alien criminals,
      .
Angel parents, ending Somali fraud, ending Medicare and Medicaid fraud and using proceeds to balance the budget, reducing drug prices, protecting Americans from Iran’s nuclear missiles, ending mail-in vote fraud, restoring pride in our country,
      .
and the first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens,
      .
      …what -do- Democrats stand for?
      .
Democrats who don’t own the problems their policies created under Obama-Biden shouldn’t be disparaged? Screaming anti-American Islamist Democrats shouldn’t be disparaged? Americans must take them every bit as seriously as they take themselves?
      .
Tedious? Why not thank God and President Trump that you live in America, not some shite hole where hope’s so far gone that tedium’s a mandatory way of life?

      1. “……..what -do- Democrats stand for?……….”

100% opposite of what Trump stands for, suggests, opines, says, does, thinks, etc, because their position is a mental disorder, of control, not governance.

        1. Reggie, that’s not a plan! That’s 3rd grade school yard behavior and you think that’s rational???
And what pray tell IS the democrat party’s plan exactly for the country? Please be specific!

          1. Err sorry got out over my skis here Reggie, but you are correct the democrat plan is oppose Trump nothing else.

    6. “……..I find the disparaging remarks and hate towards Democrats tedious………”
I guess the hatred towards Trump, Republicans and conservatives wasn’t as obvious to you? Do you have some sort of inkling that all this hatred is just going to evaporate some day? No clue on the destination of this common journey? Were you staring out the window daydreaming during high school history class?

  7. I didn’t watch it, but other outlets are reporting the good Representative Al Green was escorted out of the House Chamber for the second year in a row.

  8. What I find so frustrating in all of this is, we as a nation have lost our ability to have a rational dialogue together. The real losers here are hard working Americans regardless of party, who are forced by shrill media and provocateurs to support one side or the other. Instead of looking at an individual illegal/criminal’s actions or the potential malfeasance of a single police officer, bureaucrat or politician, the wholesale hyperbole condemning or excusing the entire group erodes discernment and judgement of individual actions. It pressures institutions to unequally apply the rules we live by. When you have members of congress declare F*** ICE, rational dialogue is impossible.
You find yourself defending your choice of candidate without the ability to voice divergent opinions on one topic or other and no longer have the ability to discuss issues factually with your neighbor, because they will paint you as (pick your insult) because you did not pick the candidate they did or oppose their narrative. Americans have always had the ability to speak their minds and respected each other, but this polarization is eroding that hallmark of our nation and it is really very sad.
