The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office and the Puyallup School District in Washington state have confirmed that an investigation is now underway into an alleged sexual assault reported by a female high school wrestler in Puyallup. This comes weeks after the student and her family say school officials were first alerted to the assault and after the incident became widely viewed on social media.

The victim, a sophomore at Rogers High School, reported the incident to school administrators and her coach two days after it occurred in December, according to the family. However, they contend the district failed to take meaningful action in the immediate aftermath, leaving the student without adequate protection or a timely investigation into her claim.
Details surrounding the allegation have drawn increasing public attention, particularly because the family says the report was not promptly referred to law enforcement.
The Puyallup School District declined to comment on specifics, citing the ongoing investigation, but said student safety remains a priority.
“This matter is under investigation,” the district said in a statement. “As such, we cannot share details or discuss specifics. What we can say is that student safety is a top priority and that all reports involving student safety are taken seriously.”
Pierce County Sheriff Keith Swank confirmed the investigation Tuesday and said the matter has now been forwarded for prosecutorial review.
“We did take a report and it is in the hands of the prosecuting attorney’s office now for them to review for possible charges to be filed,” Swank said.
