Social media can lead to criminal activity – and it has already done so in Alaska’s governor’s race.

The campaign of Bernadette Wilson, a leading candidate for Alaska governor, is warning supporters to beware of criminal scams circulating on social media and messaging platforms impersonating the candidate.

According to the Wilson campaign, bad actors have created a fake account on X (formerly Twitter) that almost identically mimics Wilson’s official page, differing by just one letter in the username but using her photo, campaign materials, and language to deceive social media users.

In addition, a WhatsApp chat group has appeared under Wilson’s name and likeness, where the organizer is attempting to solicit money from unsuspecting users — a scheme that rises to the level of criminal activity.

The two scam operations appear to be a serious attempt to defraud Alaskans. The campaign reported the activity to both X and WhatsApp and asked supporters to be extremely cautious and to verify any communication that claims to come from Bernadette Wilson or her campaign before engaging or sending money.

Wilson, known for her strong social media presence and direct engagement with Alaskans online, said her campaign will never ask for money through private chat groups.

Her X account has 800 followers; the fake one is around 300.

Anyone who encounters the fake X account or WhatsApp group is encouraged to report it directly to the platform and notify the Wilson campaign.

The real X page can be found at: https://x.com/Bernadette4Gov . The fake one drops the final “e” in her name.

    1. Out of all 13
Bernadette is the most likely candidate to bring the right together when faced against someone like as radical as Clamon.
Since Bernadette announced her candidacy that’s when we saw all these leaders throw their hats into the arena one after the other like a conspiracy by the AKGOP, ‘anyone but Bernadette’
Because that’s what it looks like “ AKGOP machinists don’t want to get behind Bernadette”
In their foolishness with that many candidates AKGOP will lose the Governor’s office in 2027 by their current strategy at play.

  1. Not saying Clamon is radical but he is one that the Radical left can get behind
Apparently that is now the new left Radical left extremism
